Thanks for posting OP, read a few sentences, sounded fishy and the I found this:

dhammaprotector.blogspot.com/2009/04/athet-pyan-shinthaw-paulu-back-from.html

Turns out the entire thing is a hoax.
It may be a hoax, but there* is* an anti-Christian feeling in this article…

The author calls Christ’s Resurrection a myth.

Then he gives this sentence:
"In my conclusion, this Christian story has out rightly insulted Buddha, Sangha, Buddhists and our intelligence. Once again, it has proven that evangelical Christians will resort to lying, deceiving and slandering to win converts. They’ll continue to create more fairy tales* to sustain the fairy tales they believed in**." *

He is offended when people criticize Buddhism, yet,** in the same sentence**, he calls Christianity a fairy tale!

Yes, I originally googled “Athet Pyan Shinthaw Paulu hoax” when I first read the OP, but I found most of the “rebuttals” to be blog posts on anti-Christian websites. Thus I didn’t bother using them as “sources” but simply reasoned through it myself. 🙂

I am more then sceptical, it is against catholic dogma to believe you can see heaven or hell and “come back”.
Could you give me a reference for this dogma? It would condemn a lot of early Christian and medieval literature–the visit to hell was a whole subgenre for centuries, and as far as I know this literature was not condemned, although the Church didn’t officially endorse it either.

I am also skeptical of the OP story, by the way.

Here is a link to a refutation of the story coming from a Christian organization.

Wow, thanks Edwin! This group did a very thorough evaluation, even going to meet with the guy in person. It’s good to know that at least this guy exists and actually did make a tape of his “testimony”. Even though he sounds to be either mentally disturbed or a con man. 😦

Namo Buddhaya,

This story is fake don’t say it not i was ordained at Mandalay Kyaikkasan and i had seen this story on youtube and i went to ask many of the monks if they knew Athet Pyan Shinthaw Paulu. He never existed in the temple at all.

As for the preceptor U Zadila Kyar Ni Kan Sayadaw he never died in a car accident and you know i am right now living in Mandalay Kyaikkasan. I do not know what kind of sick joke this is but i can a sure you that the one who wrote this story has a very lively imagination.

And U Zadila Kyar Ni Kan Sayadaw he is the one who ordained me so he seems very dead at an age of 95 isn’t he?

Best to remove phony stories like that on internet i’m going to bring this to world news including with pictures of me and my teacher U Zadila Kyar Ni Kan Sayadaw, also one last things Buddhist monks do not travel by car they go everywhere on foot.

I think his point is that you have to earn heaven or hell to see them. So if you earned them, you are already there. Round trip tickets are not available until the Last Judgment.

If that is Catholic theology better off staying a Buddhist!
Because the abbot said in the story to have had died it is not true and he is my preceptor who had ordained me as a Buddhist monk and to stop these lies online i came here to make these things clear as i’m going to post tomorrow a picture with the monk who he claimed had died.

Just this morning i’ve had lunch together with U Zadila Kyar Ni Kan Sayadaw and if this is the way Christians try to convert people i’ll just say shame on you all. Even i’m not a Christian but in the bible it says clearly thou shall not lie and what is this story? it is a lie and i’ll show the entire world pictures with me and U Zadila Kyar Ni Kan Sayadaw to show what kind of frauds these people are.

And i’ll give the writer one change to tell the truth if not i’ll publish this world wide also with an interview with our abbot U Zadila Kyar Ni Kan Sayadaw

If you notice, this thread is four and a half years old and I think all the posters (including the OP in later posts) recognize that this story is a hoax. No need to shame us all. We agree with you.
