If this person is not a supervisor why not, calmly reply with the following:??? “I am sorry, but I could not understand what you said. You are talking so loudly it is hard to understand you.”

Or: “Hey, I am not hard of hearing you know.” You can speak in a lower tone of voice if you like." (And all the while smile ear to ear as if you had not a care in the world.)

No matter where you work you will run into people that think yelling makes them look smart, better or gets the point across. Find a reasonable way to redirect their approach to you by changing your reaction to them. Keep the tears for home, and take some time each day to figure out what you might say if the yelling fool starts in again.

You could even ask them if they are hard of hearing. You know----"Did you realize how loud you speak to others? That could be a sign of hearing loss. Have you had your hearing checked lately? This way you bring the yelling back to them, and shed it’s effect off from you.

Every hear of the saying: “Kill em with kindness.”???😛
Tough love! It would work for some but if the OP is shy then this may be more than this person can handle and prayer might be the only way if not just to build confidence and know that God is there also.

You, and they, have my prayers. The dark things pass.

“Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are the Easter people and hallelujah is our song.”
“I plead with you! Never, ever give up on hope, never doubt, never tire, and never become discouraged. Be not afraid.”
“If He asks much of you, it is because He knows you can give much.”

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

†

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

†

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Sorry about your difficulty. Nobody should be made to feel so bad they want to cry on a regular basis.

Generally people treat us how we tell them to treat us. (I know this is a hard concept, but it’s true). Unless this person is treating everyone like that (there are people like that…), then you might use this as an opportunity to learn about yourself.

There are plenty of counselor’s and support groups out there to help.

If you are looking for a quick fix, and this person is a male, (I’m presuming you are a female) just find an insult that is demeaning to him and shows you don’t have respect for him, (not telling him you don’t respect him), showing him in an embarrassing way, and publicly. It’s not a particularly healthy way to do it, just effective, because men deal on a level where perception of respect is VERY important. Women tend to be focused more on relationship.

Then find the counselor and work on yourself…👍

I am one of those quiet people who isnt good at standing up to one person. I have been yelled at recently and always dont know what to say and end up crying. I have told the bosses, but they are this persons friend. I cant quit my job, I just want to say the right thing at the right time to that person so it will stop, and I can do my job. Thank you in advance for any support and also for any prayers God Bless and take care
Hi Emily

I hope that you are doing ok. I know exactly what you are going through as ever since I got my new job 18 months ago I have been bullied. I am the only quiet person in a team of very strong personalities and they make me feel like I am not normal for being quiet. I have dreaded going into work for the past 18 months and I am proactively looking for a new job. I will pray for you that you can find a new job and move on. Take Care

Hi. I’d agree that this is one way do it - if the OP wants to put herself on this person’s level. But at the moment the OP can take solace in the fact that she is not the aggressor. I don’t think insults as a quick fix, will help anyone in the long run. It would a very understandable thing if it were an immediate angry reaction when being upset by him on the spot but to deliberately respond with premeditated insult for insult is not that positive. If this lady is shy but does muster up the courage to speak to him, wouldn’t it be better, and demand more respect, if she were to do it directly, polite and to the point. Some people even like to get a reaction and might be wanting to bring her down - to make her angry and this can make the bully do it more. Everything about life is relationship not respect. The OP doesn’t actually sound like that sort of person to respond in that way and what a shame if she were to play along. Maybe the guy knows the OP is a Catholic and wants to chip away at her. I say: don’t react with anger as this will make the perpetrator get a sense of victory from it.

To the OP, there is a true story about this guy who went up to Mother Theresa and right there and then spat openly in her face. He didn’t hold back. He despised her, her work, her belief. Her calm and direct response changed this man’s life. Her lack of anger or repulse of him was a blessing. I know it is hard but find a calm solution. 🙂

My suspicion is that her tormentor is female. Either way, this could easily backfire. Bullies are sociopaths and pathological liars as well, and they could easily play the victim and then report OP to her superiors.
