Edward Pentin of the National Catholic Register provides some details of the infighting over Vatican economic reforms, and the results of that struggle-- which appear to have significantly decreased the authority of the Secretariat for the Economy.

I don’t get it. If this article is accurate, why would the Holy Father give overarching economic aithority to Cardinal Pell’s new dicastery, as the cornerstone of his financial reform, and then greatly curtail that power? Two steps forward and one step back?
