What is the most traditional or proper way for Christians or Catholics to be buried?

Do we need to have a marbel tomb over our grave or is it ok to be buried in the green grass area with just a head stone?

I was told people or Greeks like to put the Marble bed instead of the grass because they dont want people to step over their graves?

Does anyone believe cremation to be wrong? howcome the Church has changed its views on this,and does it now make it ok to be burnt?

What about Mausoleums?

there are no Catholic rules about this at all

what the Greeks did or did not do with headstones is irrelevant

there is no requirement for a casket unless local civil law requires it

the rule against cremation came about in a time where that choice indicated a deliberate rejection of the doctrine of resurrection of the body. The prohibition was lifted since that is no longer the reason usually, but simple cost factors, unavailability of burial grounds etc. What I believe is also irrelevant since I can be guided by church discipline on the matter.

A mausoleam is simply an alternative to burial in the ground and a casket with a body or a container with cremains can certainl be interred there. most Catholic cemeteries have them

Anything goes. I would like to go to the sea, as I am far away from my birthplace, an island. But for family sake, simple piece of marble to say, I was buried here and not there, I do not mind if children play on my tomb or that a weary visitant sits there. Written on the marble (cheaper in my region, full of marble): “Here lays XXXXXXXX, waiting the the coming of the Lord”

Some ended up in the Bones Chapel in Evora, Portugal, worth visiting, where it says (legend or reality?): “We Bones that are here, for yours we are waiting”. Macabre? Reality.

Actually, not just anything goes. Scattering of ashes is prohibited. Cremation is fine. Happens in Japan and Korea all the time.

First of all, you need to have a Funeral Liturgy; after the Liturgy, the priest and people go to the cemetary for final prayers and blessings. No you do not need a marble stone; what ever you can afford is fine, but you need some kind of head stone to know who is buried where, Yes, cremation is approved by the CHurch. For some people, this is a more inexpensive way for burial.

What is the right thing to do with the ashes?

What about Holy relics of saints? if everyone was cremated there would be no Holy relics,

our body may be sanctified and holy and may eminate grace,but if we burn it we may lose that.

Ashes must be treated as the body, which is to say buried or housed in a permanent, dedicated place. (Burial at sea is ok, I believe, but not scattering ashes on the waves.)

If the Lord wills that grace should flow from our remains, He is not constrained by their form.

Headstones are not required but they are nice for future generations.

Many states have requirements for things like concrete vaults but these are distinct from the requirements of the Church.

It is preferred that the body be present for the funeral, it can be cremated after and if so the burial is obviously not immediately following the funeral. It is, however, possible to celebrate a funeral with the cremains present. If the body is not present at all, the mass is a memorial service rather than a funeral.

In small area such as Singapore, cremation is common for Catholics, Christians, Budhists and Hindhus. Land is extremely expensive. If cremation is wrong then what should people do with the dead bodies? Cremation followed by keeping the ashes is considered a better choice than cremation followed by scattering ashes.
