Got a psych paper coming up on burn-out among health care workers. But I have this funny (unsubstantiated) feeling there are dimensions to it that the secular scientific community isn’t seeing. Do Priests, Sisters & Brothers burn-out? At the same rate as the secular or protestants? Are there statistical “blips” plus or minus among various orders?

And where would I even look to find this stuff, lol?

Thanks…

I did a paper on this in my Human Relationship class in the seminary.

Check the psych and theological journals. The great thing being in the seminary we had an internet search service for these sort of things so I had enough articles for my paper.

Before posting here, I looked at more than 12-hundred peer reviewed studies. Participants ranged from doctors, nurses, social workers, even coaches and trainers. Oddly,I could only find studies done with the protestant clergy (if all churches were the same, I’d still be protestant).

…ya don’t suppose I need to look at articles written in Latin, do you?😃

Here are two books you might find helpful:

Living the Vows: the Emotional Conflicts of Celibate Religious by Andrew McAllister.

Weaving a Tapestry: Loneliness, Spiritual Wellbeing and Communal Support by Carol A. Wintermyer.

Considering how many catholic hospitals there are out there, how can you get this unsubstantiated (I agree) feeling?
