Burning incense at home?

Just curious if anyone here has ever attempted to burn incense at home? I have always thought it would be nice to be able to have that lovely aroma in the house once in a while. Thanks.

No problem. Burning incense at home for the reason you mention is no different than burning scented candles.

I agree with Joe.

It’s also helpful to use during “prayer time.” It’s one more sense (smell) that is affected and helps to create a prayerful, reverential atmosphere.

You can use sticks, cones, or the resin. Before I recently started using the sticks, I bought most of my charcoal and incense from St. Joseph’s. They have a good turnaround time, the quality is good for the price, and alittle goes a long way!

If you do use the resin incense (like they put in thuribles in church,) don’t forget to get a quality burner. This kind is super, because it lets the charcoal burn evenly and catches the ashes in the bottom.

I burn incense with my daily prayers, along with beeswax candles. It is my offering of this world and all that is in it (including the bee’s wax and tree resin and myself) back to God. The aroma is heavenly–which is the point. Try doing a search on one of the online Bibles for the word incense and see how often it comes up. I have a small hand censer which I hope to upgrade sometime to one with a wooden handle. I would recommend starting with a wooden handle.
