Bush donates $13,000 to tsunami relief
United States President George W Bush is sending cheques totalling $US10,000 ($13,000) to relief efforts in South-East Asia after last month’s devastating earthquake and tsunami.
“They are being mailed today,” White House spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters travelling with the President.
Mr McClellan refused to say which groups were receiving Mr Bush’s money.
However, he said some of them were on the government Internet site www.usafreedomcorps, to which the President has referred people eager to help relief efforts.
“The President has said he encourages all Americans to send cash donations as they’re able to do so to these international relief organisations who are working in the region and have a good understanding of where the resources need to be directed to meet the needs of the people in the region,” Mr McClellan said.
