When and if Social Security is privatized, the social Elite that invest in the stock market and privatized social security will become fantasically wealthier. The poor will have less and the rich will become richer.

The programs privitization will cost Billions of Dollars. The government will have to pay for the money that gets “Invested in the stock market.” If the Market fails all the money will disappear. Like with the internet stocks. (Guess who will get it? The rich.)

As it stands money the money invested in Social Security is invisible. The government invests it in itself through the form of taxs and repays it a little at a time. Social Security generates its own funding.

The Fact that some people die and some people collect keeps it solvant. Remeber that My generation is dying from Drugs and Aids so that may help contribute to Social Securities solvancy. The liekelyhood I think that My generation will live to collect is a mispersception…

The Employees that work for social security will retire or disappear. Under the plan they too will be privatized and replaced by Subcontracted employees for $8 an hour. This will generate a feeling of discontent within Social Security because no one wants to work for $8 an hour. The employees that work there now make $12-$15-$20 an hour. They are not all happy and when they get run by some fat, dysfunctional greedy company like Computer Science Corporation you all do not know how unhappy and miserable Social Welfarity will come. People will recon for the “good old days”.

That is the most bizzare thing I have heard in a while.God Bless

Unreal. It’s hard to take someone seriously when all their slant on news is geared around hatred for someone.

Bill: I consider myself a moderate to conservative person. I think your take on this is a tad on the extreme side and would point out that even if the President took complete and total leave of his senses (and I mean like mooning the Cardinal Archbishop of Washington or publicly flushing a little girl’s kitten down a pay toilet at a press conference or offering the Queen of England a hit off his bong at a state dinner), there is no way that even his own party in Congress would let him do it. They’ve already got the jitters about it not being too extreme.

It makes you wonder what in the world people are starting behind closed doors,to come up with this kind of conspiracy theory:ehh:

This is what happens when you subscribe to Michael Moore’s e-newsletter. :rotfl:

SILLINESS.
No jlw. It is not silliness. Those who spread this type of doom and gloom do not want to loose control of the monies that some into Social Security.

These types think people are to incompetant to care for themselves thus government has to take care of them. The flaw in this type of logic is that the government is made up of people to.

If people are incompetant how can people take care of other people. Or is it, that only people that are in lockstep with the big government crowd are competant.

It is a crime for private pension plans, 401K’s, and IRA’s to be managed as poorly as the government has manged social security. If my savings and investments were managed the way government has managed my social security contributins, people would go to jail.

After I recieved my last social security statement, I put together a spreadsheet with my past contributions, starting in 1975, and using the assumption provided by my social security statement, projected contributions through 2020 when I turn 62. At a return of 5% per year, the total balance of the account in 2020 would be $849,000. This would provide me with $3,537.50 per month in interest income, without ever touching the principal.

Compare this to the benefit of $1480 per monthe social security predicts I will receive. Along with being less than half of what I would receive from a private account, upon my death there is no estate from my social security contributions to pass on to my children. In a private account, there would be $849,000 to distribute to my children. Social security gives only a $400 burial benefit.

Social security is such a bad system that the federal government does not participate. My mother is retired from the Social Security Administration. Her government pension, which was properly funded and managed, pays far better than social security would have. She also saved a lot of money over the years since social security was not deducted from her pay.

More power to the President as he leads the effort to privatize social security. I’m with him. With privatized social security, some people may end up with a bad investment. Without privatizing social security, we are all guaranteed a bad investment.

Bill_A,
If you really believe this trash, please go talk to your priest. He can get you the help you need.

this doesn’t make any sense. Any individual who invests in the market will make the market return (historically a little over 10%). The rich are already investing in the mrket. the 2 to 4% of salary up to the cap (what is it, $90,000+) is miniscual for the rich compared to what they are investing already, but is hugh for the poor who invest nothing. The poor will have more than they have now. How is that going to make them poorer?

Again, a statement that makes little sense. The program can be phased in with wage earners who are just starting to earn. The market hasn’t failed yet, and will only fail if the entire country fails, at which point Social Security is also a moot point. Much of what caused the Crash in the 20s has long ago been changed - e.g. speculative purchases leveraged 90%. That is not allowed now.
And as to your comment about the internet stocks, the rich took their lumps like anyone else. They didn’t get “rich” when their holding went bankrupt, and the rich were the most invested.

Social Security generates its own funding. {/QUOTE] And this plan simply changes where the money goes. Instead of going to the Government and being spent on bombs or roads, it will be spent on stock which is ultimately in an individual’s name and cannot be spent for other purposes.

The overall death rate is not significant to the whole population. The vast majority of your generation is not on drugs or carrying AIDS. Furthermore, one probably scenario is to pool the investments as an annuity, funded by stock ownership. The annuity aspect results in the same general response; you die too soon, nothing is collected.

Unfounded presumptions. No government entity that has been downsized has resulted in $8 an hour wages. And calling a private compnay that has to make a profit to stay in businees fat makes as much sense as calling a bureaucracy that has not profit motive lean and mean.

In matters of the church, you need to get out of the news threads!:yup:

Hello Everyone,

Touchy subject. My wife received a letter from Social Security yesterday. It let her know that if she became permanently disabled she would be getting a benefit of $555.00 per month. $555.00.

Come on  , people cannot live on this amount. Anytime we depend on the government for anything we are perfectly capable of doing on our own we are going to get the short end of the stick.

Stop being so afraid, before 1940, there was no social security. People were not being killed or deprived of services. As a matter of fact, our economy flourished.

$555.00. This is what 30 years of work has garnered my wife. 30 years.

ybic,
Trevor 👍

Im sorry but the $555. a month is only designed to put food on the table. People want the government to be all things to all people.

I am sure most of you probably think that this is all “crazy talk.” I posted the thread in hopes to educate some of you. I consider that if it is too crazy for you. Some time the day will come when you remember this. That the government intrusions have gone too far and that the wealthy abused people to much and our citys became disparaging cesspools of poverty. Which as Michael Moore pointed out have became fantastic recruiting grounds for our non stop wars on poor 3rd world countries.
