But its My Body?

I am not sure that is fair. I am not pro-abortion, but there are so many complex reasons and issues that CAN be going on; really only God knows the heart of the woman.
Unless the woman got pregnant by herself, there is nothing complex about this. Where is the man in this equation? Everyone reading this began as a human embryo. If you were an embryo, and had adult knowledge, would you vote to have yourself killed? But since you have no choice and are, according to science, human, how is it fair for any embryo or developing baby to be aborted?

Peace,
Ed

Peter Kreeft in the Unaborted Socrates has this argument.

If the baby is part of your body then you have two heads, four hands, twenty toes.

If A is “part of” B, and B is part of C, then logically A is part of C.

If the toes of the baby are part of the baby…and the baby is part of the mother…the baby’s toes/head/eyes are part of the mother.

Yes I agree. This is why people are leaving the church in droves, because they feel hated and judged for their actions.

I also notice that no one in this thread has cited any Biblical teaching on abortion. Maybe because there is no Bible verse on point? Yeah, God knew us from when we were in the womb, but what does that have to do with abortion?

All of the pro-life Christian rhetoric comes from human rhetoric and tradition, not necessarily the Bible.

In addition, some people here posted that the primary purpose of sex is procreation. Not necessarily. There is a innate biological need for selfish sexual satisfaction.
Is that why people starving in Ethiopia are dying in droves? Lack of sexual satisfaction? I always assumed it was lack of food and water. Someone call Lionel Ritchie and Harry Belafonte.

And now for something really different…

Believe it or not, you could quote President Obama, out of context, of course, “You didn’t build that, someone else made it for you.” July 13, 2012.

You did not make your own body. It was a gift from God and your parents, and such a great gift comes with great responsibilities. Just as someone else provided for you when you could not provide for yourself, you also have that responsibility for the person you helped to create. If not, our species would have gone extinct long ago.

I’ve always wondered why it is that it’s no one’s business what a woman does with her body when it comes to things like abortion, yet it is everyone’s business what a woman does to her body when it comes to food. The most vocal for a “woman’s right to choose” are also the most vocal when it comes to placing restrictions on school lunches, soft drinks, sweets, etc. because we aren’t capable of making smart choices on our own. 🤷

I think if women considering abortion were aware of the true nature of the “procedure,” most wouldn’t go near it. It’s as gruesome as it gets to look at those little mutilated bodies.

I tsounds like you’re part of the “If you don’t like abortion - don’t have one” crowd? How about " If you don’t like robbery - don’t rob people", or “If you don’t like slavery - don’t own one - just don’t judge me for owning mine”.

Do you get the picture?

We live in a twisted society. If a woman wanted to cut off the end of her own pinky finger, and was caught trying to do that, she would be thrown in the psychiatric ward, but if she wants to kill her baby that’s legal and “normal” based simply on the location of the baby when she has it killed.

A baby is NOT “the woman’s body”.

No matter the complexity of the reason, a tragic event has taken place. An unborn child has been brutally murdered. And the woman is sometimes left scarred for life.
No, but we all seem to be making out the woman to be as evil as satan here, and I don’t that’s fair. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone etc etc
Sacred Scripture tells us that Our Lord has a special place in His heart for children.

Matthew 18 states:

1 At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
2 He called a child over, placed it in their midst,
3 and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
4 Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

usccb.org/bible/matthew/18/

When Our Lord Himself puts such a high value on children, how can we do any less? To speak out for the rights of the unborn has nothing to do with making a woman as evil as Satan. What are we to do to protect these children? We must identify abortion for what it is – murder. Are those who condemn infanticide or child abuse casting the first stone? I think not. We are charged with protecting children – whether born or unborn.

The process of healing and reconciliation is open to any woman who has made this tragic decision. Let us pray for their spiritual and emotional healing.

Yes there is a verse: thou shall not kill. Clear as water.

And no people are not leaving the church because they feel hated, people are leaving the church because they want to do wrong and want everybody to justify their wrong actions and refuse to hear when someone tells them that their actions are wrong… people want free license to do whatever they what without measuring consequences. Sorry but life doesn’t work that way.

Very good point, I also find extremely interesting that most pro choice advocates are also the strongest advocates for all women shall breastfeed no matter what and if you use formula you are evil. I remember having a discussion with one and I said but wait, isn’t it her body her choice? Why it applies to her uterus but not to her breast. Truth is the her body her choice is only for the uterus because if it comes to any other body part is not her choice anymore.

I have never once heard anyone in my pro-life circle of friends express hatred toward women who seek abortions. More than any other people, they want to help these women before they resort to abortion. And afterward, they want to help these women heal the tragic wound that killing a child involves.

I see mercy and compassion for these women.

I see righteous anger toward those who facilitate and profit from abortion and also toward those who propagandize in favor of abortion.

I don’t hate women who have had abortions. I don’t “judge” them. I’m very, very sorry for them. But, when it comes right down to it, killing a child is evil.
