Hello I was wondering if anyone could help me.

I’m looking for a copy of the catechism that I can buy online that is either in the UK or delivers to the UK.

I’m not sure what version is the latest. (2004?)

I found a few paperbacks for £5-10 which is pretty good price but ideally I would like a hardback or leather bound for durability that isn’t too expensive.

Hope I’m not asking too much, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,🙂

  1. I recommend that you go to your Conference of Catholic Bishops and order through them…the USCCB…has them but they do not ship outside USA.
  2. You can go to Amazon and get a copy (published by Doubleday – paperback and hardback)…but they lack the official publication’s Index of Citations --citations in the CCC from Sacred Scripture…and all Church documents (Councils – Popes’ Encyclicals – Church Fathers)…but otherwise they are the complete (teachings of the ) Catechism.

  1. This is very important…the Catechism was first published in Oct 1992…but there were some errors in the first English translation publications 1994 & 1995…so you want the CCC…2nd Edition for English translations…revised in accordance with the official Latin text promulgated by (Blessed ) Pope John Paul II…the publication date for this correct edition is 1997.

Hope this is helpful.

I recommend the amazon option. You can get the paperback version for a very reasonable price. Use it liberally. When it falls apart, get another copy. This version is also a little smaller in size and easier to carry around.

Forgive my ignorance how does one contact the conference of Catholic bishops in the UK?

I had a look at the amazon link, the paperback is good at £12.29 but it jumps to over £80 for the hardback, don’t understand why there is such a huge price increase!

Assuming your in the uk:

The Red coloured Catechism is the one that i would reccomend, the revised edition by Geoffrey chapman. Its the most up to date on as far as im aware.

If you have a Kindle. You can purchase one there as well. If you have a smart phone, download the app, its free. Then you have the whole Catechism, in a very mobile, easy to use format.

try the website of the bishops’ conference of your company they probably sell the translation of the CCC, Compendium and other resources for your country.

This is the Catechism that was put out for the UK specifically in 2000.

The larger “green” catechism was designed for local conferences of Bishops to develop their own Catechism specific to their culture.
“It is meant to encourage and assist in the writing of new local catechisms, which take into account various situations and cultures, while carefully preserving the unity of faith and fidelity to catholic doctrine”. Blessed Pope John Paul II
Some of the other ones that have been posted on this thread are older versions or specific to the United States. I would recommend getting the “blue” one if I were you. I’m not aware if it comes in hardback or leather versions.

God Bless!

Thanks to everyone for their replies. 🙂

I’ll go get a copy of the blue paperback edition to add to my home altar.😃

Thanks to everyone for their replies. 🙂
I’ve thought about picking that one up myself but I already have the one put out by the USCCB and the green one so I don’t see what I would gain from it. I am, however, waiting for the Eastern Catechism to come out and will definitely grab that when it does.

Peace,
