buying a new bible

I purchased a D-R Bible from Saint Benedict Press, and I love it. Aside from being a beautifully constructed book (its least important feature), I love the language, the style, the wording, everything. As the CA article said, it’s the one I’ll read. I totally understand that the “older language” may be off-putting to some people, and especially to people whose first language isn’t English… but personally, I’ve found it to be a wonderful Bible, and I’m blessed to have one.
 
I’d go with the Douay Rheims. The language is honestly not that difficult.

I would stay away from the NAB. While one can argue that the simplified translation was needed to reach an increasingly illiterate population (an argument I don’t agree with), it still would not justify the footnotes and commentary, which are to be blunt heretical in many editions.

The commentary in a Bible should help you grow in your faith, not attack it. Unfortunately, the notes in most NABs, which is what many American Catholic families have in their home attack it.
