Hey
My girlfriend and I have been dating for 3 1/2 months. And she is planning on getting me a new cell phone for valentines day next month. Should I stop her? Is that an ok gift at this point? I mean I know we are going to be together forever and all. I am just stunned cos Ive never had anyone (not counting parents) want to spend that much on me. I have told her that she does not have to buy my a new phone. But she says she wants too.

You do not know that you will be together forever. You barely know her yet.

In my opinion, it is too soon for such an expensive gift.

Ummmm, no. I have been dating my BF for two years and we have talked about marriage and looked at rings and I think I would be uncomfortable if he bought me a cell phone.

Miss Manners suggests that the gifts not be personal, i.e. that they can be returned to the giver. Items that are not personal, CDs, books and the like. Gifts that are personal include jewelry, clothing (maybe if it’s unisex it’s okay) or something personalized with names or initials.

I’m not sure where a cell phone fits in. Who’s paying for the plan? I don’t need to know I’m just suggesting you consider that part.

I am on the AT&T go phone plan (and so is she) she is wanting to buy me the phone its self. And ofcourse I would have my current plan put on it. But I just think that its a little much right now

Well if it were me, I’d see if I could tawk her into getting me the new Iphone.

Agreed.

Do you know why she feels she has to get you such an expensive gift? I’m reading into this, yes, but it has me wondering if she isn’t a bit insecure? Or, are you getting her something that she feels she has to match in value?

Frighten her that after that phone, you might expect bigger things after. If that doesn’t work, tell her that as you believe you will be spending your whole life together, it will be the best for her to save her funds for the future.

I’ve been going out with my man for 3 years and we started giving expensive things on our 8th month, during my bday and then on our first anniversary.

God Bless and always think of Christ when you deal with your girlfriend.👍

I :imsorry:
No fair giving sad eyes. I bet you pull that on Deb all the time:rolleyes:

bulldawg maybe you should ask her why a cell phone? And, tell her that you would cherish any gift, just because it’s from her.

Girls dig that kind of a line. Trust me. maybe that would take the pressure off her feeling like she needs to get you something $$$

Are you hard to reach, bulldawg? Maybe she wants to buy you a reliable means of communication. 😃

I talked her out of the phone. She said the reason she chose that was because she saw how bad mine looks (the battary cover is taped on and its 3 years old but still works lol) But she said she understands why I dont want her to get me one.

Sweet of her, and gentlemanly of you:thumbsup:

TSK…don’t you already have one 😉
Well yeah, but bulldawg wants one too.

I dunno what the big deal on this is. Don’t they give those things away nowdays? You can get a pretty good phone for what 30 dollars???

But she might wanna put him on her plan so that way she can track who he’s calling and texting. LOL. Never underestimate a lady’s ingenuity. LIke when Debbie went in my Iphone and looked at my call log, compared to the time stamp on the home phone to confirm I was the the ONE sending her obscene phone calls.

I’ve had similar issues with receiving rather touching or expensive gifts very early on. I don’t know if it’s something about me or if it’s the type of guy I attract… They’re never normal gifts either, like jewelry or some such. One guy got me a paintball gun (so we could go together, so at least it was practical?), another found out I collect swords and gave me his rapier, along with the crucifix his aunt brought back from Italy - came off of a sister’s rosary after getting a new one, with relics inside of it. I returned the paintball gun, despite that guy’s protests. The second guy refused to let me return the sword and crucifix (which I can’t say I’m all that upset about :o ). But honestly, I have to wonder, do I come off as a girl who doesn’t like flowers? 🤷

Why don’t you just admit it. SAY it.

Hello all,

I’m engaged and getting married next year (ask me where I am APPLYING to get married! )

Anyway, here in Canada there is a contest for me to be able to win $1,000 towards my wedding bands. For all those who are married, you know how much weddings can cost especially if it’s in Europe (ask me where I am APPLYING to get married! )

I’m kind of hoping you can all help me and my fiance with this bit of task.

You will need Facebook – On the search tab, search for “Spence Diamonds” then like their page. After you like their page, go to their contests and click on the contest to win the wedding bands and search for my entry, you’ll know because it has my name “Ernestine”.

I’ve got some friends in Facebook but I guess due to my being “too vocal” with beliefs, none of them are too willing to help. I’m hoping I can rely on your help and give us a bit of break with all the spending.

Oh and feel free to add me in Facebook, would love to have some Catholic friends in Facebook.

Thanks to all of you in advance. God bless!!
