My question in particular is in regards to a cricket bat that I got for Christmas. It was bought from someone selling cricket equipment, which I’m not sure is legal. (Isn’t some kind of license necessary to sell a company’s products?) Is such a thing legal? Because if so I could continue to use the bat. If it’s not, what should I do with it?

More information needed - did the cricket bat belong to the person who sold it to your friend, or not?

Anyone can sell anything that they themselves own. You don’t need a license for that, unless you’re actually opening a store. Even then, if the store is all used goods, you only need a business license.

But if he stole it off the back of a delivery truck or something, that’s different - then you are in possession of stolen goods, which is very bad.

I’m quite certain that the seller owned it. I doubt any theft was taking place. If this is the case, there’s no problem?

NO, you did not sin.

You need to be talking to a priest about your scrupulosity.
