To the right you will see a link that shows a building then to the right it says Light of the east. Where is that building on the left, and what does it mean to Eastern Catholics?

God Bless

It looks like it was very beautiful
Unfortunately, the Muslims defaced icons there except those of Christ and Mary. That is where the term “defaced” originated. They literally scratched and rubbed the faces of icons that it is erased.

It is illegal to pray in the Hagia Sophia and Christians have been arrested for doing so.

Incidentally, there are churches in southern Spain that used to be mosques where Muslim tourists have been visiting and and making a big show about praying in them causing a lot of local resentment.

Wow! Was this during the war with the crusades?

oh i apologize, and Islam claims to be a religion of peace? They have no respect what so ever for our religion!

You won’t have any trouble with local authorities if you pray in there. Turkey is as modern as Muslim countries come. They practice freedom of religion and the Catholic Church is in normal operation there. (I’m part Turkish and have been there many times)

What you would find is it gets very crowded with tourists. There are typically long lines it get in. Sure you can pray there but don’t expect much quiet time.

In most cases they were painted or plastered over, actually. Som icons were defaced by the Iconoclasts in an earlier period.
