Byzantine Churches In Houston?

Hey Friends

I have always wanted experience all the liturgies of the Catholic Church, I am a Knanaya Catholic so I’ve experienced Syro Malabar Qurbana my entire life and having Knanaya Jacobite cousins (Syriac Orthodox) I have experienced the West Syriac Qurbono on numerous occasions (which would be equivalent to a Syro Malankara Catholic Qurbono). So I’ve crossed out East Syrian and West Syrian Liturgies off my list and next I want to move onto the Byzantine Tradition. I currently live in Texas in the Houston Area, anyone know of any Byzantine Churches in the region?

I’m a parishioner at St. John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church in Houston. We have a Ruthenian DL on Sundays at 10AM, and a Melkite DL on Sundays at 12 noon.

The only one that I know of is St. John Chrysostom on the North-West end of town.

For me it’s the reverse: I’ve been to several West-Syriac liturgies (Maronite) and tons of Byzantine liturgies, but never to an East-Syriac liturgy. (Maybe someday … there’s a Syro-Malabarese parish about an hour from me.)

I am in the same boat as Peter. I have been to Byzantine (Ruthenian) Divine Liturgies and Maronite Qurbonos. I have never been to a Syro-Malabar one, though there is a parish here in San Antonio that somehow always gets ignored in conversations over Eastern Catholicism in the region. They just consecrated and moved into their new church last fall, though from what I read, they did serve Syro-Malabar liturgy at a Roman Catholic parish before. I do plan on visiting their parish this year now that their church is much closer to me.

Our parish at St. Frances Cabrini Church located 10727 Hartsook in Houston, TX 77034 is open for the 2pm mass for The Syro-Malabar Rite even if our parish is a Latin-Rite still the church is open for this use on Sundays. Recently Started during This year. Hope the information helps out. 🙂
