Hi. I was wondering if anyone here uses the BDW by Arch. Raya? If so can you help me with something.

I have found out that it is back in print now and I’m thinking about getting it, but I’m curious what translation of the Bible and the Psalms it uses. Is it the Grail/NAB like the Liturgy of the Hours or something else.

Thanks so much for helping, It’s really hard for me to part with that much money for a book without being able to look at it.

Just on the inside cover it says: so and so revised, edited, designed and translated the Psalms from the Greek Septuagint. Reading indications are given, but the actual readings aren’t included.

My personal critique would be some chant inclusions might be nice… But I hope that helps. 😃

Thanks for the info. Just to make sure I got it, does that mean that the chapter and verse of the Bible readings are listed, but that the actual readings aren’t there? So I would need a Bible, along with the BDW, when I say the office?

I haven’t pulled mine out in awhile. But if memory serves me correctly the translation of the Psalms is based directly on the Septuagint Psalms and was translated by a Greek Orthodox priest, Leonidos C. Contos, along with Baron Jose de Vinck. They may have been slightly revised by +Kyr Raya, but I’m not sure on that one. The Psalms themselves are available in a lovely little book as well. A friend of our family gave a copy to my mother to pray with as she was battling cancer (my family is Roman Catholic and had no notion of the East at the time). Mom loved that book. When she passed the book was handed on to me. I found that I was already quite familiar with the translation since I’d been attending a Melkite Church for several years by that point. 😛
