Hello All! I know this has been discussed before, but I was wondering if anyone had Raya’s Byzantine Missal and would be willing to trade it for a prayer rope or two.
Just wondering if you mean Byzantine Daily Worship and not Byzantine Missal. The former reflects current usage. No, I meant the Byzantine Missal. I already have a copy of Byzantine Daily Worship, but would like to round off my collection of Raya’s materials with the Byzantine Missal.Just wondering if you mean Byzantine Daily Worship and not Byzantine Missal. If you have a library card then you should be able to get it on loan to see it, through worlcat:No, I meant the Byzantine Missal. I already have a copy of Byzantine Daily Worship, but would like to round off my collection of Raya’s materials with the Byzantine Missal.
Out of curiosity, do you have any idea of the contents?
I have a copy but I’m not ready to part with it yet. I’m not sure I’m the person to give an evaluation of its contents. It appears to be similar in scope with BDW but on a smaller scale. No, I meant the Byzantine Missal. I see. Does it contain the cycle of Sunday readings? Any words of wisdom from Syedna Raya?I have a copy but I’m not ready to part with it yet. I’m not sure I’m the person to give an evaluation of its contents. It appears to be similar in scope with BDW but on a smaller scale.
Hmmm… Sounds like a very interesting book, especially given the time in which it was published.I’ve never owned BDW and only had the occasion to look at other’s copies. (I once found BDW on the cantor stand of an Orthodox parish!) So, I can’t really compare the two.
BM has 850 pages but the typeface seems larger to me than BDW. I don’t see the Cycle of Sunday Readings but it does have a large Menaion, along with Triodion and Pentecostarion. It contains the gems of the Eastern Church (Liturgy of St. John and St Basil, Akathist, Paraclisis, etc.) but also has sections for the Rosary, Angelus, Way of the Cross.
The title page gives Syedna Raya’s parish as:
St George’s R C Byzantine Church
Birmingham, Alabama 1958
I’m guessing the “R C” was used because there was no Melkite hierachy in the US as of yet.

Contact Alleluia Press. They’ve recently re-released the BDW. You should be able to get a copy for ca. $60.00Again, I can’t compare it with the BDW. One day I hope to snag one at a decent price. I was lucky to get this one on ebay fairly inexpensively. I’d prefer to have a BDW than the BM but this is all I could afford.
As to the Rosary, it looks like the standard Latin form to me.
