What are some byzantine prayers you could say before bed at night/or just in general? I grew up in an RC church so I only know all their prayers.I would not like book references as I do not have money to buy any.If you could id like the prayers themselves posted. Ill even except some in Ukranian if its written phoneticly!! 🙂 Christ is risen brothers in christ

The focus on spirituality.

Put these are orthodox prayers would it still be acceptable to pray them?

Why not? The Divine Liturgy said in an Eastern Catholic parish is 99.9% the same as the Divine Liturgy said in an Orthodox parish. The only difference is that Catholics would commemorate the Pope of Rome, while the Orthodox obviously will not. So why can we not say Orthodox prayers?

The prayers are exactly the same - except when it comes to where the church authorities are commemorated, the EC’s would commemorate the Pope, as Constantine has so lucidly related.

There can be, however, certain prayers to Saints where there is a noted “anti-Roman” tinge, such as the Akathist to Our Lady of Pochaev where Eastern Catholics are referred to as “New Hagarenes.” 😉

In such cases, I substitute something else . . . I also try to refrain from praying for the Russian Tsars and Russia, substituting something like “our rulers” or “the Queen” or “our land.”

Where there’s a (free) will, there is a way.

Nec plus, nec minus, nec aliter.

You might like Tranquil Light from Vespers.

From St Elias Church in Brampton…

The clergy come to the center of the Church into the midst of the Faithful - bearing Incense and Light.
The Priest blesses the Entering of the Holy, praying:

“In the evening, in the morning, and at midday, we praise, bless, thank and entreat You, O Master of all things. Rescue us from all those who hunt after our souls, for our eyes are fixed on You, O Lord and on You do we count…”

All the Candles of the Temple are lit.

The Faithful sing that most ancient Hymn of Light, the “Phos 'Ilarion”:
Tranquil Light of the holy glory of the immortal, heavenly, holy, blessed Father, O Jesus Christ,
as we come upon the sunset, as we see the evening light, we sing to God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. At all times you are worthy of being hymned by joyful voices. Oh Son of God you are the Giver of Life, and for this the whole world glorifies you.

Lovely to pray this at home, especially as you go about the house closing the draperies and turning on the lights.
