I call you not to derail the thread with your dishonest anti-catholic polemics. The subject of this thread is Christian authority. You call me to a higher place than I am likely to reach.
I know. You prefer to ignore the subject of the thread which would require a comment and make dishonest claims about the Catholic Church instead.I seldom comment on the largest problem I see in the CoJCoLDS.
The Book of Mormon has nothing to do with the Mormon Church’s claims of Christian authority.I truly believe the evidence for BOM historicity is a large positive for the BOM, but most of the evidences presented on this board associated with BOM historicity are problematic not positive.
I showed that historically the Mormon Church has no claim to Christian authority, even when using its own current claims. All aspects of Mormon claims to authority are negative. You have not provided one positive. It is dishonest of you to claim you have.I think I already mentioned the succession issues with the CoJCoLDS and I am aware of positive and negative aspects of that (the negative being the ones most presented here).
I didn’t ask you why you are Mormon. I asked you by what authority the Mormon “Apostles” can make a claim (revelation) about something and then make the opposite claim. And how do you reason it to be from God. Contrary to your false claim about Mormonism, it claims to never change its doctrine. This is why a reasonable person would reject Mormonism.I am not a LDS because of Polygamy, Priesthood ban, BOA, … I am a LDS because of positives.
The false dilemma you have made the center of your thinking it a logical fallacy. I first heard it from Mormons when I was in high school. I knew it to be irrational then and I do now. The negative claims of the Catholic Church are only in your head because you can’t seem to list any unique positives about the Mormon Church. Were I to determine that I could not be a LDS, I would put down all the negatives for the truth claims of the CoJCoLDS (and the positives) and pick up all the negatives for the truth claims of the Catholic Church (and the positives) immediately (as fast as I could get to confession). When I think about these questions, it is never in a vacuum.
For a Mormon to be consistent in their thinking the Church that fell away was the Church of Jesus Christ of Former Day Saints, not Catholics, Jews, Orthodox, Muslims, Copts. You need to find the early Mormon Church which fell away. But the problem is that there never was an early Mormon Church, so you turn on the Catholic Church. Very irrational.I will also point out that for the CoJCoLDS to be God’s church there must be some falling away that required a restoration.
You are not here to investigate Catholic truth claims. You are here to make false claims about the Catholic Church. You have been on this forum for 10 years. You have never once learned of Catholic claims and then never mentioned them again. You repeat your false claims over and over, and over again. I will admit that you make it a lot easier to be Catholic knowing a Mormon has to lie about the Catholic Church while ignoring the historical, and scientific evidence against the claims of Joseph Smith and the Mormon Church. And at the same time try to make the Mormon Church seem reasonable claiming the Mormon Church teaches things it does not. The Church of Tom might be a reasonable but it is not the Mormon Church. It is the Catholic that COULD solely address flaws with Catholic truth claims and if successful prove (demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt maybe) their case. It is a viable and not unimportant avenue for consideration if one is a LDS to look for what went wrong in Catholicism. Such investigation for the LDS would be part of leaving no stone unturned while searching for truth via intellectual means. Such investigation/criticism of the CoJCoLDS would not be quite as necessary for the Catholic.
The place you are called to is very easy to reach for someone who truly desires to dialog in truth and charity.I know I am called to a higher place than I am likely to reach.
There is no Christian authority in the Mormon Church as I have shown, and you have not been able to refute.
