CAF and me

I think this is the place but maybe not. I hope the powers that be move it as they think proper. Perhaps this could be a new forum. I need to mention that I am of the pinball generation, not Pac Man’s. This is the first time I’ve joined any on-line group. ** Its (name removed by moderator)act on me:

1. I have learned a lot. I thought I really understood not just the basics but the nuances of the Faith. This web site convinced me that I didn’t.
2. I genuinely feel like I am a member of a community. As one “hangs around” CA, one gets to know others and can communicate with kindred souls. This is really important for me. To over simplify, I feel as though I am a member of Augustine’s City of God, not just the city of man. I have felt welcomed by CA.
3. I have found this experience to be comforting. At this point, I can’t go any further with this.
4. CA is the ultimate support group. Catholicism may be the only thing that can be criticized {even viciously} and yet have such criticism be politically correct. It is hard to stand tall in such a climate. CA is very clearly faith affirming. One can get both personal and intellectual support here.
5. I am coming to appreciate the various posters as distinct human beings trying to live good Catholic lives in a tough hostile world. It is interesting for me to see the empathy which some postings have generated in me and others. It has helped my prayer life. One never feels alone at CA.
6. The water cooler is fun. I can’t worry about theological conumdrums and apologetics all the time.

Since I have just been “promoted” to “regular member” (whatevet THAT means) I have come to think that it would be best to limit postings on this thread to those who have some long term appreciation and experience of CA, so I think those who are “new” members should refrain from commenting on this thread until they somehow arrive at a different status. I don’t know if anyone agrees with this or if such a limiting can technically be done.

FinalIy, I hope this posting does’t violate the brevity guideline. I would really be interested in the impact of CA on others. Pax vobiscum.

I agree with all you said. The only downside is that I find CAF so addictive that I neglect my work and family duties! So I’m going to strictly ration myself in future.

Welcome to the forum, PoliSciProf.

I am glad you have found it very useful here. I too learn a lot from the CAF’s forums, but I am slowly applying to what I have learned to my spiritual life.

For your last suggestion, I would have to think a bit different way.

For this thread, the membership’s status and number of posts should never be considered as an indicator of one’s opinion. Sometimes, those who speak little with less number of posts, or even those new members, are the ones who give better suggestion and have more insight.
