Has anyone here read books about the Spanish missions in California? If so, can you recommend the BEST and most truthful book(s) for me to read?

You’re asking a pretty specific question. Most laypeople aren’t going to have sufficient expertise to tell you which is the best book on a relatively niche topic. Maybe someone from the history department at a catholic college in California could help?
 
I’m asking a question that people who have an avid interest in our Catholic Faith and its history and who read books would have an answer to.
Is there a truly Catholic college left in California?
