Call to Obedience

Just curious -

What is the non-Catholic Christian take on obedience to God as taught by Jesus Christ? Do they focus mainly on the Ten Commandments, or do they focus only on Scripture from the New Testament?

Obedience is obedience. Law was given for the lawless in a time when observing the law was beneficial. Sin offerings were made by priests to cleanse their people. The highest priest, Christ, made the last acceptable sacrifice so that our sins might be forgiven. He made a new covenant with us, and baptized us with the Holy Spirit. Law is now written in our hearts and our minds, therefore sin is defying the Spirit inside us.

I am not a Catholic anymore, nor do I endorse any other religion. The body of Christ is my church, and the human population are it’s members. There is no forgiveness for men who know truth, and continue to sin. You’re either faithful or you’re not. The word of God is not to be interpreted and distorted to our likings. God is unchangeable as is his Word. Anything that defies this is heresy.

Does anyone know what kremisos is saying here?

Seems to be (also based on other posts) saying that it is optional, which is interesting because the passage cited directly points out that if a person deliberately sins, Christ’s sacrifice is no longer efficacious for them.

I would beg all those following this belief to read St. Paul:

“For know and recognize this: no sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of the Messiah and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for because of these things God’s wrath is coming on the disobedient.”

It doesn’t get more clear or sobering than that… it’s scary and I really worryto death over every person I see who believes sin can’t hurt them. These are just what Paul calls them: empty arguements, and people are being deceived.

I do not know about the Orthodox side, but most Protestants take all of the (Protestant) Bible as authoritative, OT and NT: sola scriptura, tota scriptura.

Many accept the NT as modifying positions in the OT, especially regarding the laws handed down on Sinai to the nation of Israel. Very few Protestants disassemble their houses when they find mould inside.

Some (usually young and usually pentecostal) Protestants disregard the OT, thinking that it was “replaced” by the NT. This is typically a result of not having read the text yet.
