Called my wife naive

Many of us who have close friends or family, I have both, who are gay have a difficult time in this area because we love our friends and family but not what they are doing. It so difficult to adhere to our teachings and continue to maintain a relationship with these people. I have 2 sets of very old friends who left their marriages and are now involved in same sex relationships and are critical of the Catholic Church for not being accepting and welcoming because they see themselves as decent people. My own non-Catholic husband who generally is pretty conservative sees nothing wrong with it. We are being inundated with it to the point where one of our Presidents’ first major actions of his second term is considering going back to the SCOTUS over it. No doubt those of us who continue to hold to the Churches’ teachings on this issue are considered naive. Your wife may never be able to change her thinking without the intervention of the Hoy Spirit on this subject because of all that is happening around her these days. Did you see the thread regarding the news of the assistant principal at a Catholic high school being fired for posting his complete support for same sex marriage on his blog. Even though he knew it was a breach of his contract to do so he felt he had to. I completely agree with your assessment of what has happened in other countries and I see it as just a matter of time for the U.S.

That thread is talking about someone being upset by the e-mail. TBH, I don’t care that they were upset >_> The only person I care about upsetting is my wife 😛
If you will read down through a few you will see what people from other countries are saying have happened that agree with what you mentioned as a concern.

Yeah, I read through it and saw that after I had posted my remark. My apologies, I missed your intent in linking to that post. Thanks for pointing it out to me ^^

Before you start in on me, I already feel terrible about it; I just kind of blurted it out…

Anyways, some back story:

My wife and I have never seen eye to eye on the gay “marriage” thing; she is not Catholic, and was not raised particularly religious. She has an aunt who is a lesbian, and was engaged in a single, life-long partnership that ended when her partner died; she has not began another relationship since. So, in all honesty, I understand why her opinion on the subject developed as it did. This morning, I brought up the two court cases that are looking to overturn Proposition 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act; and basically started talking about how bad it would be if the court cases achieved their ends.

She, in turn, said that the court cases were not an attack on the Church (I contest that they are, however indirect), and that they wouldn’t necessarily have any impact on the church. She says that since Church’s can limit who they marry to their parishioners, they’ll be able to limit who they marry to heterosexual couples. I pointed out that this is not the pattern we’ve seen anywhere in Europe, or in Canada; and she said that just because it happened that way there doesn’t mean it’ll happen that way here.

At that point, I told her that she was being naive for thinking the US would be any different from the rest of the world…

I feel bad for saying it, but at the same time I stand by the sentiment; the US is not different from the rest of the world, and it will ultimately follow the same path as the rest of the world if the government refuses to defend the institution of marriage. It will get to the point where gays can sue the Church for not performing their “marriage,” which, apart from being an absolute affront to the freedom of religion, will result in a whole new wave of Christian persecution by “progressives.” I know I sound like a worst-case-scenario type of person, but I’m only basing this on the pattern we’re seeing int he rest of the world.

I am looking for statistics, data, examples, etc to back up my position.

I already have something in mind to make up for calling her naive though, so no worries there.

Thank you for any help you can give me.
Apologize to your wife for calling her naive. You really are not going to win the argument with her and even though your position on this issue is correct, arguing with her will not change her view. Since you married her knowing that she doesn’t have a faith, you are probably going to have to back it up and get her to a point of coming with you to Church and having a very basic belief in God. Arguing over this issue will not draw her into the Church but drive her away. Someone will need a much more religious foundation under them first before you can delve into this kind of issue. Instead of looking for points to prove you are right, you are going to have to show more love and kindness with her to bring her along. I am assuming your faith might have been an attraction for her but she hasn’t made the plunge into faith yet. Good luck.

Like I said in a previous thread: Some cases you probably already know of processed by the Canadian human rights tribunal.

This is the sort of stuff I’m looking for. Thank you!

And to Robwar, I do tend to take a very light approach with my wife so far as religion is concerned. She is open to it, but I know that pressing the issue will only turn her away; today was something of an abnormality.

Satan tempts in this exact way, attempting to cause ‘division’ and not unity with God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit and both of you joined in God’s Love and Unity. It is actually not standing up for Jesus as He is the only Judge of all His Children regardless of Faith and religious life, sexual life, types of sins and the ways in which we love and communicate.

I fell into the trap this past week debating a matter with another CA member, a fellow Catholic, which resulted in unkind words, negative unloving emotions and anger ALL in relation to me standing up for Mothers or Fathers who have separated and/or divorced as Catholics. I am healed days later after asking for forgiveness and acknowledged that it was my ego and pride (“grave sin”) tempted by satan as the primary cause of me commenting.

Jesus, God and The Holy Spirit are the Judges on all matters pertaining to His Church(es) and Scriptures; we are not Jesus and sin(less) in every aspect of our lives; so why do people wish to persecute and isolate Jesus Children from His Catholic Church or any Church and/or deny them the right to be united in their own faith and Church in which many of them were baptized in The Holy Spirit?

Q: Are there Catholics out there sin free and able to sit upon a Throne and Judge their Brothers and Sisters in Christ (who are baptized just as they were) and whom are carrying out many other of Jesus’ Commandments through either their Churches, work, charity wise, vocations and socially?

I have a family member who is gay and he/she is Catholic, baptized, assisted thousands and thousands of people throughout life (unpaid and being paid, however going well beyond), non judgemental of others and their sins as Catholics, rarely an unkind or nasty word said about others during life.

If the Pope through God, The Holy Spirit and Jesus ever allowed marriage or a ‘Catholic unity Blessing/Sacrament to be introduced and implemented’; I would be happy and joyous for not only my family member; for all of my Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

Psychologically, most of the people I have met and known through life who have condemned and been against the Gay Community, Gay Catholics marrying and/or marrying within the Catholic Church or any other Church or Racist, ended up experiencing a 'profound Gay family related matter or the Racist, has ended up with the very Nationality they had condemned/slandered in their Lives. These are facts. From the strict Catholic grandparents against Homosexuality in Catholics, ending up with a much loved and cherished Grandson being Gay and ‘coming out’ in his twenties to high profile Religious leaders with Children who are Gay.

An elderly family friend of my Ex-husband’s who was racist against people who are Asian; he inherited a daughter-in-law who is Asian recently (his lesson I gather in his 60’s that God is The Judge and not he, the Father and Father-in-law). A Paramedic I knew used to send up people who were Gay and people he/she knew had become Gay, gossiping about them. He/She became Gay. My Ex-Husband was racist against certain Nationalities; he ended up with both of the two Nationalities that he slandered as two of the people who have saved him professionally and financially. Blokes have ended up with their Child or Children who have become Gay; in particular, those parents who have had a strong dislike, villification and/or condemnation of Gay people and Gay people marrying within the Catholic Church (likewise, Jesus and God’s lessons that He is the Judge; not us as His Children).

Be careful of this, for I have seen that the things we are strongly against and do not wish to happen in or around our families; does actually occur, as a Lesson served to us by Jesus and God, for judging, condemning or causing hurt and anxiety to others.

What a lovely man you are, to care about calling your wife ‘naive’. Some husbands would hardly notice they’d delivered a ‘put-down’!

Prayers for you both.

The aforementioned comments were not directed at you personally and only based upon some of my experiences, ProdglArchitect my Brother in Jesus.

Please pray that satan does not enter into discussions on the topic and pray The Holy Rosary to Jesus and Mother Mary for Their Divine Holy Loving Guidance on the Gay topic(s).

Love and kindest wishes to you, your Wife and Family now and for Eternity.
