Well, it’s official. I am sick of seeing so many sad folks who just can’t see how far the fantasy genre is different from our reality.

So with that in mind, I’ve decided to call all my fellow Catholic fantasy nuts here to help me demonstrate by presenting their examples of how real life occultism pales in awesomeness to the glory of fantasy-style magic.

This will help us compile some examples should we ever once again need to show people that comparing one with the other is folly.

I’ll start with a few pictures as example.

This is reality.

This is fantasy.

In the next post, I’ll use videos so stay tuned. Better yet, contribute your own! Good God, maybe it’ll finally put an end to the Anti-Fantasy League.

Reality: Do a bunch of awkward things, focus real hard, and say something a few times to no effect.

Fantasy: Supernova And listen! Do you hear that? IT’S ECCLESIASTICAL LATIN!

Methinks Lost Wanderer wants to turn Catholic Answers Forum into an anime image board, albeit less nasty than the mainstream ones, but still a place where we can post DESU to heart’s content. 🙂

Certainly an anime imageboard section without the nasty content is welcomed! 😃

Blessings!

I’d have to dig it up, but on one of the role-play gaming sites I used to read regularly, there was this hilarious article that a guy posted in which he demonstrated that Harry Potter-style magic and Dungeons and Dragons-style magic do not work in the real world.

I have to admit, I sometimes wonder if the Anti-Fantasy League are simply projecting their own problems with fantasy onto us. Some of the most virulent ones I’ve met seemed to have a more tenuous grip on reality than I do. Sure, I like me some pretendy-fun times myself, but I’m also aware that my characters are not real, despite how loud their “voices” might be in the creativity centers of my brain.

Also, an anime image board with no objectionable content would be primo!

Certainly some series borrow elements and symbols, but, in the Anime examples I’ve seen, is usually for aesthetic purposes, or to explain something, without a coherent connection with a real cult.

For example, Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Blessings!

Well, if there is an anime or fantasy board on CAF, my son “maaayyyy” be persuaded to join CAF. LW has been a great friend to an old lady like me. 😉

I do agree, leave the hentei out. (did I say right?)

Thanks Jharek. I don’t know all the terms, but as a mom, that is one I learned real quick. 👍

Yet somehow Midgar remains in one piece! Isn’t fantasy wonderful? (Or should I say game physics? :p)

That never crossed my mind but what the heck, that’s not a bad idea either. Just remember, the theme of this thread is to demonstrate just how wide the gap between the real world and the fantasy world is (by highlighting how lame the former is compared to the latter ).

Unfortunately, I don’t get the reference. :o
Replace the leopard with a certain cephalopod and that’s another one that’s actually quite relative to how disturbing the genre in question is. Honestly, every time I see it mentioned (even on other threads) I feel like shooting myself in the head. >_<;;;

Well seeing as I’m enjoying a brief break here at the office, I think I’ll post an office-themed addition to the thread.

This is reality.
two witches sit in side-by-side cubicles in a call center
Witch #1: So, where’s tonight’s coven meeting being held?
Witch #2: At Walter’s, his house is on a nice little hilltop remember? It’s perfect for our upcoming moon magick ritual. 🙂
Witch #1: Oh that’s nice! Well, let’s get going. 😃
two witches sign out from work and pass by the place where the Marketing folks are
Content Writer #1: sniffs What’s that smell? 7_7 looks at two witches
Content Writer #2: Some funky incense, obviously. ._. keeps typing
This is fantasy.
at the bottom level of a dark, Mayan-themed dungeon
Jenna the Paladin: Foul demon! We shall now rid this world of your evil! D8<
Mayan-themed Demon: Grahahahahaha! I’m more pleased than ever that you got this far! Now you shall witness the-
Lizzie the Rogue: Blahblahblah! Can we kill you now? We really need the bounty. Our guild kinda puts us in a tight schedule y’know. >BP goes in stealthy fighting stance
Irie the Cleric: L-Lizzie! You know it’s rude to interrupt someone. 😊
Lykex the Warlock: Honey, if you’ve heard one demon monologue, you’ve heard them all. -.- summons eldritch-arcane energy to both hands Let’s do this. >B(
Rick the Barbarian: Yeaaaah! Bring it!! >8D taunts demon while waving giant sword
Mayan-themed Demon: -_-;; grumbles something in Mexican Graaaaah!!! DX< charges
Rick the Barbarian: Oh yeah! This is what we’re all about!! >BD
Jenna the Paladin: sighs Here we again… -.-
Lizzie the Rogue: Let’s make some money!!! X3
slashes of light arc, elemental blasts fly, smoke bombs are tossed, enemy’s vital points are struck, party’s wounds are healed en masse, and eventually demon is pwned in typical boss-fight fashion

Okay, I’ve already used one of the videos here before, but that pretty much symbolizes the constraints of real life. 😛

This is Reality.

This is Fantasy.

Vids of fantasy examples though are a dime a dozen. XD

Hehehe, sorry!

But is a common error I see in many English speaking sites, so I thought it was another of these occurrences.

Blessings!

The difference is fan service. Most guys watch occult containing anime NOT for the occult but for cutesy, very histrionic and violent female characters usually in some form of outrageous school uniform or maid outfit. There is one male loser hero who NEVER EVER gets intimately close to any girl (although he approaches that) and there are many girls who vie for his attention. I think we can agree it’s a different type of magic. 🙂 😃 😛

I think the occult is just a gimmick in most such shows. Thankfully Christianity is not debased to this level, although sometimes pseudo-Catholic imagery is used too.

There are also shows for women- such as TWILIGHT the show about young, gay, vampires and the women who surround them. The allure is the same. It’s not the occult, but the effeminate young males and women for some reason are really attracted to them.

:confused::confused::confused:

But such is life, I suppose.

Yes, that would be one of the reasons… argh. That kind of fan service is ruining some series. I remember the awful shows from 2010.

But, in the 2007-2008 period, in a Spanish speaking anime forum (a very popular one) some people were researching (doing a bad research hehe) symbols and stuff from some animes.

They found things from modern esoteric societies and new age doctrines… some of them thought that they found some hidden treasure (), and, as usual, the “new convert” (Actually, I don’t know if they became new age followers or simply agnostic or atheistic people with interest for esoteric things) zeal arises and the pride of “knowing” more than the common person.

Anyway, they seem to be a minority, more or less, from what I’ve seen.

I guess the modern crisis of faith strikes in some weird ways.

Blessings!
