I believe in bringing people together. For this reason, I would like to envite all of the Protestants on the forum to do something that they may never have considered. I would like you to consider attending an Ash Wednesday service at a Catholic Church.

Now wait. Before you say no, I want you to consider something. Walking back into your office with ash on your forehead in the shape of the cross may prompt some interesting questions from people and allow you to witness to them about Christ. Think about it.

Also, it is an excellent opportunity to have a Catholic experience in person. In this way, some of what we say on the forum may begin to make additional sense.

The Catholic Church and I welcome you all!

It is March 1 this year, so check your local parish for times of services!

First of all, we are not allowed to participate in Roman Catholic rituals, as we are not considered by the Roman Catholic church to be real Christians.

Second, the Bible prohibits us from doing so.

Maybe I’ll do it at my mother’s Methodist church.

There is no prohibition in the Roman Catholic Church that keeps you from participating. The only thing that you can’t do is take communion. We get a lot of Protestants who come to Ash Wednesday.

Not sure how the Bible prohibits you from doing so. I never have read anything in the Bible that prohibits a Protestant from going to Mass.

Brad

So, how can we take part in this ritual when the Roman Catholic church doesn’t even accept us as Christians?

Ok, you are going to have to pardon me here. I am not sure where you are going with this, so I am going to need to beg for a little clarification.

If you are a baptized Protestant, the Catholic Church does recognize you as a Christian. So, you would be able to participate in anything you wanted…except communion.

If we’re Christians, then why are we going to Hell? If we’re Christians, then why aren’t we considered worthy to take communion?

Ok, first off…calm down a little. I beg you. I have never said that you were going to Hell. Not at all. I was just inviting you to Church. As far as taking communion goes, you have to be a confirmed Catholic to take communion. After all, if you did not recognize it as the body and blood of Christ, what would be the purpose?

Still, I urge you to stay calm. There is no reason to get upset, I was just inviting a fellow Christian to my Church…that’s all. I assure you that all are welcome in the Catholic Church. After all, if God had not wanted Christian’s to attend the Mass, why would he have established the Catholic Church?

In any event, I hope you put your sword up and attend at Ash Wednesday. Until then, I promise that I will light a candle for you the next time I am at Mass. After all, Christ died for all our sins.

I didn’t say that you, specifically did. For all I know, you may not share your religion’s belief that we’re all going to Hell.

The point isn’t what I believe about communion, but what the Roman Catholic church teaches about us.

Thank you, but I don’t believe that it would be appropriate for me to participate in a Roman Catholic service.

Perhaps I will. But I would have to do it in a Methodist church.

You reject the truth therefore you can not recieve the Eucharist. When you accept the Eucharist you are professing the faith of the Church. You reject the Catholic faith therefore you can not recieve the Eucharist.

THe same answer for hell, you reject the truth. Any rejection of truth is a rejection of God. Salvation is granted to those who conform to the Truth.

Ok, and I am only going to say this once. First off, the Catholic Church has never said that non-Catholic Christians are going to Hell. I realize that you may have read this on a website, or been told this by someone who was Anti-Catholic, but it is not true. And it has never been.

The point of your not taking communion…is what you believe about it.

You are welcome in my church, and I will pray that you find it so that you can learn about it from the source and not from someone that knows nothing about it.

And, I disagree with you. Christ did find the Catholic Church. If I am wrong, show me where I am wrong in scripture.

Brad

Please stop trying to tell Catholics what they believe, we know a lot better than you. Rather than tell us what we believe you should start a thread and ask a question about what we teach.

I don’t reject the truth. Jesus Christ is the truth. I have accepted Jesus Christ.

I reject Roman Catholic rituals and it’s authority in determining my salvation.
Salvation is granted to those who conform to the Truth.
So then, Christ’s atonement alone is not enough to save?

Amen. Here is just another example of a poor guy that has been taught lies all his life. I shall light a candle for him, and perhaps ask Mary to pray from him.

I don’t know that you’re going to hell. That’s between you and God.

Because you do not believe the same thing that we do about communion and worse still you do not believe the same thing that the New Testament teaches about it or that the early church’s writings tell us they believed as well.

Commnuion would imply unity of belief, and as you have taken such great pains to assert several times so far, you reject the beliefs that we hold dear. Therefore it is hypocritical of you to even suggest that you seek communion with us.

Reject all you want. The fact is, we are right. And, Biblical.

Love you brother.

I read it on this website.

I’ve also offered quotes from three different popes to that effect in another thread.

But I do take communion. The point is that the Roman Catholic church does not consider us worthy to take communion.

You mean that the Roman Catholic church would appoint priests to teach in it’s schools and religious education programs that know nothing about Roman Catholicism? How did they get to be priests to begin with?
And, I disagree with you. Christ did find the Catholic Church. If I am wrong, show me where I am wrong in scripture.
The fact that it isn’t found in scripture is all the proof I need.

And yet not one of you has shown me where in scripture we’re told that one must depend on the rituals of the Roman Catholic church and not Christ’s atonement for our salvation.

Mainly because that is not a teaching of the Catholic Church and so you have made a great point…as you beat up that straw man.

Your view of salvation is not biblical.
