Yes, Christ who taught that it is by faith in His atonement on the cross that we are saved.

You’re either unfamiliar with Calvinism or you’re unfamiliar with my views because I am not, nor have I ever been, a Calvinist.

Jesus.
Are you telling me that all the baptists I have ever met have lied to me? Because they were Calvinists as well. I am quite familiar with Calvinism. You can reject that your church accepts calvinism if you want.

Sorry…just had to tell you this one. Just reported to you the forum manager for rude behavior online. Have a great night.

Brad
And it’s so polite of you guys to tell us that we’re not saved and not real Christians.

Jesus disagreed with every one of your doctrines. It is Christ Himself who said that you will be judged according to your works. Those who did evil will not recieve salvation and those who did good will recieve salvation. It is Christ Himself that said that unless you eat His flesh and blood you have no life in you. There are two doctrines where Christ disagrees with you.

By the way. I love your screen name. I considered Hedwig for a long time!

Brad
This is TOTALLY uncalled for and I have reported you for it. You agreed to certain Forum Rules when you joined us here and have skated the edge until now.

Go to any baptist message board. You will see that there are Baptists who are Calvinists and Baptists who are not.

I am one who is not.

It is amazing that baptists can’t even decide what they believe. They have been so corrupted that they have become relativists.

No, actually Jesus taught that it is not empty rituals that save us, but faith in His atonement on the cross.

We know what we believe. We simply enjoy our Biblical freedom in Christ to make up our own minds on matters of non-essential doctrine.

As I said above, according to Christ you will be judged according to works not according faith.

To 12 volt man

Im not catholic, I came to this site “accidently” and am curious to learn more about what catholics believe. I believe we are all Gods children and need to get to know and understand each other especially if we are going to spend forever together 🙂

Why are you agrressive its been suggested there is rage or just a old fashioned “chip” on your shoulder or perhaps its a plank??

If you truly love the Lord then show His Love by how you deal with all people. There is enough hate and bad feelings in this world without them coming from you especially in the name of the Lord.

Remember “Be ye Kind”

Eph 4: 32

Actually some protestants have ASH wedensday those with liturgical calenders such as Anglicans and Lutherans also celebrate Ash Wednesay so out of respects to them we should mention that.
But to lower church protestants such as Baptist and pentacostals etc by all means visit a catholic church and recieve the ashes if you wish and come celebrate the lenten season with us it really marks the beginning of the Easter season and gives a better perspective of the nature of sacrifice of the season. I can’t imagine not having a lenten season and just bingo its Easter but unfortuantly this is the tradition of low church protestantism. I am sure Luther would be shocked at such a practice.

Excellent idea, I also invite them to go to a local Catholic parish
for Ash Wednesday! 👍

I know that we have quite a few Protestant brothers and sisters out there who frequent this forum. I am all about bringing people together, and that kind of fostered an idea. Here goes.

I would like to invite each and every Protestant on this forum to Ash Wednesday service at your local Catholic parish on March 1.

I know that at my parish, we have a lot of Protestants show up for the service, and we welcome them all.

I think that it would be a heck of an opportunity for you to experience a little Catholic teaching first hand, and that can only lead to a greater understanding on both sides. I was raised Protestant, so I know how intimidating Mass might seem. Still, I think it would be a blessing to have you all there.

Oh, and there is a bonus. One of the big perks of Ash Wednesday is that you get to go back to work after it is over. I know that people come up to me and ask me about the cross of ash on my forehead all day. If you were looking for an opportunity to witness, this will bring questions from those who do not already know Christ…and some that do. Still, it is one heck of an opportunity for Christian fellowship. Come one…come all.

I love you all…

Brad 👍 👍 👍

Can I invite the Catholics to come Ash Wednesday
at the Methodist church? 🙂

You could. I was once a Methodist, and there is nothing wrong with it…they are very good people.

Just wanted to let peole know that we welcome them.

One nice thing to remember about Catholic churches is that we have many Masses at all times of the day between the several parishes. At my wife’s PCUSA church the Ash Wednesday service is at 7 pm and either that time works for you or it doesn’t. It would be a very occasion for a Catholic to miss Mass because of schedule problems but Protestants would have this issue come up more frequently.

My understanding is that since ashes are sacramentals everyone can have them imposed at Mass but one must be Catholic to commune. Likewise, if I went to my wife’s service, I could receive the ashes but must not commune there since I am Catholic. That is a Catholic prohibition on me not a PCUSA rule. They invite me and I must politely decline the offer.

Good point. But all can recieve ashes, and I hope that some of the Protestant brothers and sisters on this site decide to come for a visit.

I have merged the several threads on this topic into one main thread…

There was some discussion last evening, that many people were uncomforatble with- or felt was uncharitable. I have reviewed all the posts and have elected to leave a good portion of that discussion.

If we elect to censor beliefs because we don’t like them or disagree with them, we cannot claim to be operating a discussion forum that educates Catholics as to the belief systems of others. Instead, we run the risk of creating a very insular, parochial site in which Catholics speak only with Catholics and that, eventually, will be better labeled “Catholics Liking Catholics”, since we will have no answers for anyone.

Attempting to answer others without taking the time and making the effort to know and understand their beliefs produces a dogmatic, pedantic product that, if accepted by the listener, results in a poorly catechized Catholic who doesn’t really understand why he left his origins, only that he did. Most converts forged in that mold eventually move on, generally resentful of what they perceive, rightly, to have been manipulation that afforded them answers, not to their questions, but to the questions that others decided they should have. The kind of dialogue that has transpired is the reason why there is a Non-Catholic Forum.

That said, this discussion walks a very thin line between appropriate intellectual discussion and word brawl. I would encourage ALL who decide to continue with the discussion to keep this in mind. Remember to check your post for tone and content before hitting submit.

May God be with each of us in this discussion-

I believe in bringing people together. For this reason, I would like to envite all of the Protestants on the forum to do something that they may never have considered. I would like you to consider attending an Ash Wednesday service at a Catholic Church.

Now wait. Before you say no, I want you to consider something. Walking back into your office with ash on your forehead in the shape of the cross may prompt some interesting questions from people and allow you to witness to them about Christ. Think about it.

Also, it is an excellent opportunity to have a Catholic experience in person. In this way, some of what we say on the forum may begin to make additional sense.

The Catholic Church and I welcome you all!

It is March 1 this year, so check your local parish for times of services!

Brad
The Episcopal Church puts the cross of ashes on your head as well.

Yes you do and like I said, inviting people to church is a good thing. More power to you.
