A few weeks ago, I bought some frozen pre-cooked shrimp on sale. I’ve never really cooked with shrimp, so I’d appreciate some inspiration. All the recipes I seem to have either take too long to prepare or use ingredients I don’t have on hand. Any ideas?

Something very quick with minimal ingredients is shrimp scampi by frying them up in butter/garlic/white wine and add some spices as you like such as parlsey.

You could also just fry them in olive oil in a similar fashion and add them to something else like pasta.

You could also breadcrumb them and fry them (in either way above).

You can sautee them over some butter with garlic and lay them on a bed on angel hair pasta, mmm mmm mmm.

I would like to point out that you bought pre-cooked shrimp so you don’t need to really need to “cook” them for very long, whatever recipe you use, you only have to warm them through. If you were using raw shrimp then you would have to cook them through. Since it’s already cooked, if you cook it again for long then shrimp gets tough.

Honestly, the best use for frozen, pre-cooked shrimp is to eat it at room temp or slightly warmed with cocktail sauce, but that’s just me.

If they are pre-cooked, just warm them. Shrimp gets rubbery if it’s cooked to long.

You could prepare a marinara sauce (pre-bought is fine) then add fresh chopped parsley, and some red pepper flakes. Put the shrimp in the last few minutes (2-3 minutes).

Toss with hot linguini. You get Linguini with shrimp fra-diavolo.

My favorite:

Put shrimp on wooden skewers (soak skewers in water for about a minute so they don’t burn) and brush with olive oil
Sprinkle with Cajun season (or your favorite substitute)
Place on the grill, cook until done

Since they are precooked try not to cook them too long!

I just had some gumbo someone brought to a potluck the other night and it was delicious. Seems like a good use for shrimp.

If you have onions, oil, and rice you can make a jambalaya. It also wouldn’t hurt to add some sausage, rotel tomatoes, and bay leaves. The real trick will be finding a way to get rid of the taste of pre-cooked shrimp. Just remember to wash them off thoroughly and don’t overcook them.

Okay, so pull of the tales and stuff and defrost them. Put a little(not too much, just enough to cover the cover the bottom of the pan, maybe like 2 tablespoons) olive oil in a skillet and cook the shrimp in that for a few minutes.

Then there is this salad dressing called Annie’s Naturals, Green Garlic dressing. Poor that in the pan. Cook it until its nice and sauteed.

You can put in on pasta or salad. Its really good.

I love me some shrimp. When we cook out, my wife marinades uncooked, shelled shrimp in a sauce. Sorry I don’t know the sauce recipe, but it has cheyene pepper and at least brown suger in it. She wraps each piece in bacon and puts them on a skewer to be grilled lightly. Maybe someone knows what I am talking about.
