I have been confronted with a Baptist who tells me I am going to hell for calling men “Father” as Matthew 23:9 states no man shall be called Father. I don’t know how to answer back to this man.
To demonstrate the inconsistency of his position that no man should be called “Father,” you might ask this person what he calls his male parent. When faced with this question, most advocates of “Call no man ‘Father’” clarify that they really mean that spiritual leaders should not be called “Father.” For a review of the scriptural justification for calling priests “Father,” please see Catholic Answers tract Call No Man “Father”?
