Calling Someone a Saint When They Aren't?

I wonder who the fastest person was - to be canonized a Saint.

According to Wikipedia, it was St. Peter of Verona, a martyr who was canonized just 11 months after his death.

Nowadays I think they won’t even open a cause for sainthood till at least 5 years after the person’s death, so you won’t see it happen this fast again. Edited to add, I note that they waived the 5-year waiting period for Mother Theresa, Pope JPII, and Sister Lucia, but it still took Mother Theresa and Pope JPII years to become saints, and Sister Lucia is still a Servant of God though it’s been 13 years since her death.

If she was a young child she probably is a Saint. In the early Church, saints were recognised by the faithful long before they were canonised. It doesn’t do any harm as long as you’re not doing it for adults who may well be in purgatory.
