I don’t understand the gay remark. With my many years fellowshipping at Calvary Chapel churches, you will find that many of the Pastors and regulars who worship at Calvary Chapel are ex-Catholics. I would not agree that you won the differerent debates with my brothers at Calvary Chapel. I will represent Calvary Chapel if you want to continue the debate.
Well, it really isn’t all that hard to figure out. Calvary Chapel is adamantly homophobic and I think that it is funny that one of the founders of CC was a gay guy… just irony.

If you want to represent CC, check out my blog and try to answer my “Questions to Protestants” blog thingamajigs. Start from the beginning so you can understand my basis.

Help me understand what you are saying? I am very familar with the start of Calvary Chapel. I grew up near Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in southern CA. I surfed all through Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, and southern CA… so I understand the Calvary Chapel movement very well. Calvary Chapel had a great appeal to the non-church sub culture like surfers, hippies, and party people. I actually did an altar call at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa when I was 18. I am now 47. I also used to live 5 mintues from the Calvary Chapel Bible college in Murrieta, CA. I knew many Calvary Chapel pastors and college students. Let’s debate my friend, I will not go beyond Calvary Chapel theology.

My Questions to Protestants parts of my blog are fairly pertinent to Calvary Chapel since I dated a CChapelite for nearly 7 months.

Pick your poison.

I think you are opening a can a worms my friend. Christianity is for sinners. What you wrote about Calvary Chapel can easily said about the sexual sins of Roman Catholic Priests and nuns too. Heck, the Pope during the Protestant Reformation was apparently a gay pope. How can the vicar of Christ be gay and immoral in life? Here is your source back at you. Actually, Jesus hung out with the tax collectors and sinners.

Sexuality
Several historians have suggested the likelihood that Leo may have been homosexual. In particular they have drawn upon the account of Francesco Guicciardini (1483-1540). Writing in 1525 only a few years after Leo’s death, Guicciardini declared[1], At the beginning of his pontificate most people deemed him very chaste; however, he was afterwards discovered to be exceedingly devoted - and every day with less and less shame - to that kind of pleasure that for honour’s sake may not be named. The precise description around Leo’s behaviour set out by Guicciardini, suggests that contemporaries would clearly have recognised the charge. Libellous tracts of the time again reiterated Leo’s predilection towards sodomy – naming Count Ludovico Rangone and Galeotto Malatesta among his lovers.

Wotherspoon and Aldrich[2] have also drawn upon the evidence presented by Leo’s modern biographer, Cesare Falconi [3]. In particular, Falconi has used the story of the Venetian noble Marc’Antonio Flaminio (1498-1550) to illustrate Leo’s infatuation with younger men. In 1514 at the age of sixteen, Marc’Antonio was taken to Rome by his father. Gian Antonio had been keen to encourage the Pope to declare a new crusade against the Turks; but instead Leo is said to have fallen in love with Marc’Antonio and desired to arrange the best education that could be offered for the time. Suspecting ulterior motives, Gian Antonio had his son sent speedily to Bologna to study philosophy at the university, and away from the unwanted attentions of the Pope. Leo intervened, through the office of his secretary Beroaldo, and arranged a position for Marc’Antonio close to him in the papal secretariat. Falconi has observed that the doors to a career, to which many better educated and more powerful men aspired, effortlessly opened to a 17 year old youth[4].

I wasn’t berating CC for that, I just noted the irony.

I am not discounting the errors in the HUMAN aspect of the Catholic Church nor those of CC, it is the THEOLOGICAL aspect of CC that is severely flawed. Besides, remember the goats and sheep, the weeds and wheat!

Now, if you will put your mind to the task, pick your axe and grind it so we can get on with this debate. The ball is in your court.

P.S. Historians SUGGESTED the LIKELIHOOD that he was gay. I know for a fact that Lonnie was gay, by his own admission… pretty important dichotomy right there.

One religion promotes their apparent homosexual to be the vicar of Christ. There is quite a difference in theology and claim.

Yet you still skirt the issue… be a man and quit playing internet chicken. This will be the third time I have said to pick a topic and I am running out of catchy phrases with which to say it. Pick a theological point of contention, you have doubtlessly seen my blog by now (didn’t go up by 5 hits for no reason) so you MUST have some material to post.

But, to tickle your various fancies, show me where the Catholic Church either accepted his homosexuality knowingly and willingly OR endorsed it OR any Catholic Church history that acknowledges it. This should be interesting.

You are way off the mark talking about one of the early leaders of Calvary Chaple being a homsexual. I simply responded that Pope Leo X is reported to be a homosexual too. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Does all of the lawsuits against the Catholic Church for child molestation have anything to do with truth? Let’s simply discuss and debate the essentials of the gospel of grace according to Scripture alone (Calvary Chapel believe) against what you embrace as truth. So, what is the gospel according to the Catholic Faith?

John 8:7

And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”

This is bibilcal Christianity:

1 Timothy 1:15

The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

Here’s Calvary Chapel’s statement of Faith.

Let’s debate the gospel of God’s grace. I will debate you within the context of what Calvary Chapel believes as a denomination. Please start by telling me “what must I do to be saved” according to the Roman Catholic Church. I will tell you “what must you do to be saved” according to Calvary Chapel biblical theology.

Whoooops!! Is this where the “T” in tulip comes in? Seems so. Seems whenever you or someone like you finds themselves standing in quicksand…you dive into the cesspool of slander and play the “lets discredit someone or something to bolster our argument”.

Perhaps you would like to take a gander at what your side of the coin is GUILTY of???

If you can handle “TRUTH”…go here: reformation.com/

Why don’t you try to follow the postings. I was responding to the person who tried to discredit Calvary Chapel based on one of the early leaders who appeared to be a homosexual. I just responded that Pope Leo X seem to struggle with the same sin. And what does the lawsuits against the Catholic Church for child molestation have to do with truth. It is the Roman Catholic Christian who tried to validate truth based on the sins of someone. Please try to take the postings in context.

If you follow the thread, you can see that topic of misdeeds of the leadership (specifically homosexuality) was first brought into the thread against Calvary Chapel in post 39, and pullnshoot continued to bring up the issue in follow up posts. I agree that these “whose people are more sinful” arguments aren’t helpful, but it you want to reprimand someone for bringing that side of things into the discussion, it’s pullnshoot that you want to talk to.

I was pointing out the absurdity of your pushing the issue forward in the manner that you did. That you went beyond Pope Leo X and carried it further by making a foul point by regurgitating the molestation issue…is just wrong. The issue had absolutely nothing to do with the truth, which seemed to have completely escaped you. You made the issue of it, not he. Context, schmontext… You throw a rock, be ready for one. Got it?

Wow…

Like I said before, I was noting the IRONY of the situation (I believe I said that exact term about twice, making this the third… too lazy to check though)

I wasn’t aware of post 39.

I will address the grace thing in the next post. Gotta eat first.

RobHorn… you are such a dork. I will stand up for my Calvary Chapel brothers and sisters in Christ since they are not on this site to represent themselves. Just study their statement of faith and I leave it at that.

I see that when you have boxed yourself in…and have no intelligent reply…you dive in the mud. Now resorting to “name-calling”.

Impressive. Not. You can defend your buddies forever…thats fine, just understand this. You throw the rock, it’ll bounce off your noggin on the way back. In other words…references to scandals is no longer a topic for you to discuss.

If you believe in Christ…half as much as you claim, you know that what I say is right, you are wrong, and your silence on the issue is all that is required.

OK, so I thought that my post got sent but apparently it did not and I was wondering why I wasn’t getting any updates on it! Here I am now though to rectify the situation.

To answer your question in the simplest terms, it is “grace alone”

Your turn.
