Calvin and Luther gave this country work ethic?

Well, I cannot add too much to this discussion, but the German sociologist Max Weber stated his theory of the Protestant work ethic in, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. And yes, it’s primarily based off of the Calvinist form of Christianity.
 
But, what came first, the chicken or the egg? Perhaps Calvinism sprang from from cultures that valued hard work and accomplishment. This trait also expressed itself in that cultures interpretation of scripture and outlook on spirituality.
