Calvin Bower Gloria

Hi everyone,

I’ve been wondering about this for a while, I hope some of you can help me.

I’ve heard this gloria at a few different Masses, and I finally got a recording of it (I recorded it myself). The place I put the mic caused the recording to be heavy on the brass, but you can still hear the melody. In the program, I recall that it said it was by “calvin bower”. It gave no name of the Mass setting it was from, so I think it was written by itself.

Does anyone know what this is, and better yet, where to buy it?

Calvin Bower is the Professor of Music at Notre Dame. And I believe he composes some of these songs for specific masses:

Hmmm… that might be why it’s not available from a publisher. Maybe the music people at Mass I went to knew Mr. Bower, or got it directly from him.

That helps clear up some confusion.

If it had more than a few months left, he should have published it! It’s one of the best settings I’ve heard. You do need a choir, but still, it’s a great setting.

So I guess this is case closed, unless anyone has sheet music they could PM to me 😃

True. Thanks for the help. I may not have that organ score in my hands (yet), but knowing where to look is half the battle!
 
Unless it is updated, it will not be usable in six months, when the new translations take effect.
 
Wow, this is very beautiful. This is exactly the sort of style that suits the vernacular Mass, in my opinion. It makes me want to compose music exactly for the Ordinary Form in English. You hear all the styles and past ages echoed in its holy love God. Hmm… 😃

Exactly my thoughts. Besides stuff by Richard Prolux, or chant, I’ve never found a good musical setting of the Gloria, except this one by Mr. Bower, and the one from A Mass for New Congregations (BenedictGal is also fond of this one, also supposedly being revised). AMFNC also has nice brass parts. I can’t find a recording of it though…
