The rub with Catholics is in the double inset.
Don’t you think the Catholic Church believes in an invisible church and visible Church too. If not all members of the visible Catholic Church will be in Heaven, then there is a concept of an invisible church too.

That’s not the way I or most “invisible church” Protestants read it. For most (maybe not you) “invisible church” Protestants, the “invisible church” excludes Catholics.

Not that I would presume your understanding of your own quote.

By the way, your signature
“…“faith alone” is true…” Pope Benedict XVI
is very disingenuous, but not as good as mine.

I started to strongly disagree with your assessment, but on further reflection I think you’re correct, and I think the authors of the Westminster Confession by and large also would have considered the “invisible church” as at least excluding a great many Catholics, oddly, especially of the priesthood. I know the preponderance of Christians in Bob Jones country are likely to dismiss them. Neither I nor 2nd Adam would be so bold as to so stringently self-determine Christ’s invisible Church, and I’m thinking both of us would be inclined to accept most Catholic’s confession of being within it. I’ve certainly met Catholics I’ve had my doubts about, but then I’ve met pastors of my own communion I’ve doubts about too. Thankfully, it isn’t up to me.

I hope you know you are ruining my day. I came here for a fight!

LOL, y’all just beat my Falcons! Uncle! 🙂
BTW, speaking of BJU, and completely off track, do you know if the Catholic Church has a line of homeschool curriculum it uses or recommends?

Nothing officially sanctioned by the Church or that carries the imprimatur, but Kolbe Academy is a good one.

We have used BJU in the past, believe it or not.

There are many Catholic home school curriculums. My wife is homeschooling our four youngest kids. She has chosen materials from several sources.

Here’s a link to what I believe is the most popular curriculum:

Here’s a more general review of curriculums:

We home schooled our first born all the way through high school. He’s a Junior at the University of Oregon. We home schooled our last two boys through their sophomore year in high school, but both are now in public high school. I thought about putting them in the local catholic high school, but the tuition was too high. 😉

hi brother 2nd. you could have done some work around the parish, to help defray the cost…lol!;)i would love to be a fly in that corner!:hug1:p.s. love the picture of the waterfall and corona. both looked lovely. but you have to admit. when you see the real thing( the waterfall not the corona, lol) no picture does them justice. peace be with you.

This is a quote from the following protesnt website: the-highway.com/Sola_Scriptura_Godfrey.html.

“The Protestant position, and my position, is that all things necessary for salvation and concerning faith and life are taught in the Bible clearly enough for the ordinary believer to find it there and understand”.

Can you please direct me to the scriptural evidence for this definition.

I appreciate your posting the 1st chapter of the Westminster confession but since we are discussing sola scriptura I would prefer to get the proof from the scriptures themselves. In fact, your posting a source outside of scripture to define sola scriptura would seem to violate the very premise of sola scriptura. I know you didn’t mean to use it as proof but as assistance in defining sola scriptura but I find it rather long and confusing myself.
oh goodness izoid:rotfl: you have no idea how confusing its gonna get! peace be with you.

I live in the part of the country that is just as beautiful as Hawaii. My house backs to a beautiful Pacific Northwest river, and I’m surrounded by the forest. However, it’s freezing and raining here! I already have it in my mind to move to Hawaii when the kids are out of the house.

That’s kindergarten apologetics and not even worth responding to . 😃 Izod is an ex-Protestant who seems quite angry from my perspective. If we debate anything within Scripture only, the Catholic will usually lose the debate since the Catholic Faith rejects the sufficiency of the Scriptures (and the sufficiency of Christ too).

Oh but I thought we had everything in common…😃 Instead of using an ad hominem, why not just answer the “kindergarten” apologetic since you are so learned? If its already a won debate, why not?

Why I consider this to be kindergarten apologetics really has to do with the actual contents of the Scriptures. Most Catholics (IMO) need to study the Scriptures for themselves to find out what’s actually in the Bible, in comparision to making those generic arguments. I want to be challenged by my Catholic siblings in regards to the actual contents of Scripture. We all believe that the Bible is the Word of God.

Izod did challenge you. FYI: Catholic do read the Bible and in fact, hear it in Mass. If you want to argue the contents of Scripture, why not tell us why you believe the Bible is Scripture? Yes, it’s a given but why we believe it is to be and how it came about, is going to affect the interpretation of it.

The Scripture points to our source of life and our complete sufficiency which is Christ.

For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.

You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places…

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. - Apostle Paul

For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments. For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?

It’s a tough call.

My dad asked how we can help the world if we pull our kids out of the world.

My opinion is that our kids must be formed in the faith first before they can be effective witnesses to the world.

Purdue, my alma mater, had Oregon beat earlier this year. Turnovers killed us.

Do you follow college sports?

I say that homeschool, public school, or private school… that God will guide our families according to His will and our good. I used to divide things as being Christian and secular, but I really don’t do that as much as I used to. If I had to do it over again, I think I would home school my kids through Junior HS, and put them in school as a Freshman in high school. I follow Oregon Ducks football since they are the local team out here. Did Purdue beat the Beavers this year?
