Calvinism on the Rise in America?

Do you know if the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA) is Calvinist? There’s an ACNA congregation in my town that holds it “service” (or is it a liturgy?) in the local Presbyterian Church of America (PCA), so I assumed the ACNA is Reformed.

Have you all developed your own identifying brand yet? It helps to distinguish you all from one another. It’ll help us Catholics get you all out of Purgatory.

The ACNA is a mini-reflection of Anglicanism generally, but the range is more narrow. It has a strain of Anglo-Catholicism, particularly in the former TEC diocese of Fort Worth, which is part of ACNA. There is a similar strain of more reformed thought/ lower church parishes. These represent the historic dichotomy of Anglicanism, and, it seems to me, are maneuvering for some sort of modern Elizabethan Compromise, as a modus vivendi.

I’m not 100% sure that Bon-croix is describing what the Catholic Church considers “America” or whether he means it in the sense you understood him to say.

The Catholic Church considers what we call North, Central and South America under the designation “America.” Therefore, Pope Francis is the first American pope.

J. I. Packer transferred to the ACNA and had a big role in helping to write the ACNA’s new catechism. Do you know if there are any low church Arminian evangelicals in ACNA or are all the evangelicals Reformed?

Thank you! It sounds like the congregation in my town leans low church/Reformed. They sing only Psalms (and not hymns) at their services and have Communion once a month. Anglicans & Episcopalians are so confusing! 😀

I don’t. The ACNA, while a similar sort of thing to the Continuum, is more like TEC, circa 45 years ago. I am not well informed as to its internals. What little I know as to its catechism doesn’t make me want to learn more.

I browsed its catechism briefly since it was online. From what I read, I thought it was well written and theologically sound–not too evangelical and not too Anglo-Catholic.

It is a acronym from Calvinism (or “Five Point Calvinism”) meaning

T - total depravity
U - unconditional election
L - limited atonement
I - irresistible grace
P -perseverance of the Saints

How funny. As I gaze out over humanity, and I mean us all, I have the least problem with that one. 😉

No worries. My guess is some of you folks will be pulling a few of us out of Hades. 😉

What gave me away?
LOL!!! I was hoping you would eventually show up with your motley commentaries on
King Henry VIII and Anglicans.
A clever username to say the least!
