A Reformed friend explained pre-destination this way: if my neighbour and I are both of a similar background and education, and we are both aware of the Gospel, but only I choose to accept Jesus and my neighbour does not, then only divine election of me by grace can explain this occurrence. In other words, God chooses who and who not to save.
I need a Catholic response to this, as I am personally convinced of God’s sovereignty but am less convinced that God created some human beings only for them to rot (or burn) in Hell.
I would appreciate any wise words. I would also appreciate if any Reformed posters could explain the doctrine further.
