I made a comment over in Feedback about the Ignore button.
Discourse does not have an “ignore button”.

If the thread bothers you, you are free to contribute something substantive, or alternatively you can select the “mute thread” option and you yourself will never have to see the thread again, although that doesn’t stop the rest of us from discussing it.

At the end of the day, the Calvinist feels that the fate of the damned is justified because they, the damned, theoretically chose to “freely” reject God.

But if they can’t affirm God without God first granting them the will to perform the affirmation, then the “free choice” of the damned is non-existent.

Do you understand what Original Sin is? Do you understand that grace is required for man to turn to God? Do you understand that Adam, as the federal head of humanity, chose, and in his choice, we chose also?

We had the free will. And we blew it then. And we blow it now, except for the grace of God.

Really, you should understand this.

Well, no. Predestination is secondary, if that. The primary object is to give God the glory He deserves and not to let anything else rob Him of that Glory.
Please, spare me. My husband, his parents and half of his grandparents were Calvinist. I have been married to him for almost 25 years and knew the entire family for 35 years (his folks just passed away recently).

I am not interested in any apologia for Calvinism. I think it’s ridiculous.

The thread isn’t bothering me. I expressed a strong eye-rolling disagreement with your particular post, which I am free to do.

Do you understand what Original Sin is?
Our innate tendency to sin as a result of the Adamic Fall. Yes.
Do you understand that grace is required for man to turn to God?
Yes, but there’s nothing to lead me to believe that it is irresistible. Or that I’m so depraved that I can’t chose to respond to it without being force-fed.
Do you understand that Adam, as the federal head of humanity, chose, and in his choice, we chose also?
We did not choose. We are merely stuck with the consequences of his choice.

This is a critical difference in culpability. If your daddy kills someone, you are not automatically made a murderer.
We had the free will. And we blew it then. And we blow it now, except for the grace of God.

We are depraved, truly!

Just not totally depraved.

And I am free to post back. Hah!

So what is preventing you from becoming a Calvinist? You don’t want to surrender your salvation to God, but you would rather get to heaven on your own?

…that old canard.

It’s been answered for 500 years…

Do you understand total depravity? The fall touches everything in us, but not everything is as bad as it can be in us.

This is Calvinism 101. From something I saw you post, you seem to have missed this fundamental teaching in Calvinism. Like.Totally.Missed.It.

I see your dismissive answers are still in play instead of substance.

I belong to the One True Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church Founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ where Christ is physically present during every Mass and Adoration, and His Mother Mary is my mother also and is honored.

Not some church founded by some guy in Europe with strange ideas a thousand years later.

Have a nice day!

Calvinists have been retreating on their definition of Total Depravity for 500 years. Seriously, pop open your Calvin’s commentaries and read his presentation of it and compare it with the slow-pitch, warm, fuzzy presentations of it that we read today.

Not. The. Same. Thing.

If you would like to argue that The Fall damaged humanity?

I’ll stand shoulder to shoulder with you against all foes of the idea - as will practically all other Catholics.

But if you want to argue that The Fall completely corrupted humanity, I’ve yet to see sufficient proof that this perfect-or-100%-ruined approach is true. None.

I detect…hostility. But no answer.

Sloppy. Don’t put words in my mouth (others have observed you do this). I did not say that humanity was completely corrupted. I said the fall has touched every part of us.

And others have observed, as I do now, your irritating, arrogant contemptuous attitude. "slow-pitch, warm, fuzzy presentations of it that we read today. "

From this site. Enjoy.

Ok. So just partially depraved.

Congratulations. You’re not a Calvinist.

I never said I was.

You may also be confusing Calvinism with hyper-Calvinism. Do you understand the difference?

How then do you explain God’s love for Israel and rejecting every other people and nation?
Dt 7:6 For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.

You don’t know if you’re the elect or not in Calvinism
