My friends and I are going camping on a small island in the Southeastern United States. We made reservations, paid deposits, and are booking a plane ride. I just realized that our trip coincides with a Sunday, which means I will miss Mass. What do I do? It was a very expensive, once-in-a-lifetime trip, and people are counting on me to attend. Will I have to not go? Should I watch Mass live from the internet that Sunday Do I just pray extra that day? Help!

When traveling, it is needed that one try and find a way to attend Mass. However, this is not always possible, especially when camping, unless one goes camping with a priest. Scouts (even those linked with a Catholic parish) deal with this all the time. If Mass is available, they go. If not, they don’t.

What do I do?
When there is no church available, we do not have an obligation. Such as camping in a remote location.

If you have concerns, talk to your priest before you go. He can give a dispensation if he thinks it necessary.
Will I have to not go?
No.

You are not obligated to do either.

Are you leaving on the Sunday? Can you go to Mass on the Saturday night at your parish?

Watching Mass on TV on the Sunday does not meet your Sunday obligation anyway so you’re not required to do so.

As all the others said and one other thing…yes pray extra that day, why not? Have a lovely time and thank God for the trip.

You couldn’t have taken a priest with you?

Seriously have a nice trip.

Ask your pastor if you can get a dispensation from hearin mass on the Sunday.

You might call the bishop of that island and ask him for the Mass schedule. 😎

May God bless you so the situation works out. My suggestion is to see where the closest Church (Catholic) is to the camping grounds.
