I know many priests say that it is not advised for a boy to sleep over at his girlfriend’s place or vice versa. This is because it may cause temptation to sin. In a hypothetical scenario where a boy and girl are spending a night together but there is nothing sexual about it and they have excellent self-control and only want to enjoy being in each other’s arms. How is this different from watching a movies together cuddled up on a couch?

I’m afraid you’re rather naive if you honestly believe there is nothing wrong not only with a “boy” sleeping over at a girlfriend’s house, but with the two cuddling up on a sofa to watch a movie, presumably alone, because they want “to enjoy being in each other’s arms.” The fact is that there are fully-mature adults who would face serious challenges to purity in such situations, never mind teenagers.

Unmarried people in serious relationships, especially if they are young and immature, rarely have “excellent self-control,” and even if they do should not be engaging in activities that put strain on that self-control. Rather, they should guard and strengthen their self-control by avoiding scenarios that threaten it. That means strictly limiting “alone time,” avoiding the kind of physical contact that leads to sexual temptation, and certainly avoiding sharing the same house at night.
