Can a catharsis bring us closer to God?

Say you’re in a bad place in life where you’re just hopeless unless God intervenes but you’re so hopeless that you can barely imagine God saving you. Can a Catharsis be the last resource of the hopeless, after which God does in fact make Himself more present in the soul of the sufferer?
 
That’s what a personal revelation is. Think about what the state of mind was for St. Francis when Christ spoke to him from the San Damiano Cross.

Many things add distance from God and us.

Our pride.
Our vanity.
Our over-love of comfort.
Sin of all sorts
Selfishness
Self-focus
Worry
Doubt about God, untrust that He’s trying to arrange things for our absolute best.

All of these things can be worked on.

Prayer decreases the distance between us and God.
Acts of denial - done out of love of God - decrease the distance between us and God.
Acts of charity - done purely out of love of God - also decrease the distance between God and us.

Receiving the Sacraments decrease the distance…

Cartharsis? Whatever it is…if it brings you closer to the will of God, then it could be a good thing

He was absorbed in a secular world, knowing that there was more to life. The revelation spurred his conversion, as these revelations (great or small) do for all of us.

Have you had a cathartic moment?

Sometimes, as we learn from the life of Elijah, these moments are not dramatic, loud events, but the rather the gentle whispering of God in a mild breeze.

Pax et bonum!
 
I have. Two. One, very dramatic and mystical, and so personal I would rather not share. And one, very simple, which was the realization that on what seemed my darkest moments in my life, He was with me, which lead me to the realization that I am never alone.

You know, the Church is called a hospital for sinners. No wonder, the Sacraments are vehicle for Grace. The Church helps us avoid sin, and live in righteousness, things we couldn’t do without the Grace of God.

Sometimes when we are in the lowliest part of our lives, it can be a crush to our pride. It can be said all sin comes from pride. Makes you realize the obvious
