My wife is having our first child in a few months time and, though she is not baptized herself, my wife has agreed with me that we should baptize our child since every member of my family going back as far as we can go has been baptized. Being Episcopalian myself, we will be baptizing our child at my church. Would it permissible for my Catholic parents and sister to attend the christening in my Episcopal church from a Catholic perspective?

Ordinarily, there is no problem with Catholics attending Protestant baptisms. But there are exceptions, and one of them is when a former Catholic is flouting his obligations to baptize his children in the Catholic faith and is instead having the children baptized in a non-Catholic church. In this case, if your parents and sister are Catholic and you are Episcopalian, I can only assume that you too once were Catholic and have left the Catholic Church. If that is indeed the case, then I cannot recommend that your parents or sister indicate approval for your child’s non-Catholic baptism by attending the baptism for your child in a non-Catholic church.
