At this point I think facts are useless. Reagan nominated the fifth vote against Roe and the Democrats not only defeated the nomination but were brutal in the process. The Senate, controlled by Democrats, had made it clear what fate awaited another such nominee … and all of this is Reagan’s fault.
Actually, it is. Bork was literally the worst person Reagan could have possibly nominated. You’re talking about a guy who openly supported poll taxes! Democrats’ problems with Bork, albeit including his stance on abortion, had much more to do with his racial views. If you think the opposition was mostly driven by pro-abortion forces, you need to re-research his nomination fight. Bork was actually the only person Democrats told Reagan openly NOT to nominate. If he had nominated a pro-life Republican that wasn’t super-radical, they would’ve taken Kennedy’s seat and we would have enough votes right now to overturn Roe.

The big problem with this argument is not just that it’s malicious but that it’s silly. First, it should be obvious that you have no idea why people behave as they do, and to say all Republicans want to do is help the rich and blame the poor is to judge them uncharitably…two things the church teaches you are to avoid. Second, you assume that wanting to do the right thing is the same as knowing what the right thing is, things, as any parent will tell you, that are quite different.
Education is indeed very important, so can I assume that you support school vouchers that allow poor kids assigned to poor schools to get into better schools where they can get that better education they need?
You should certainly support those politicians who advocate policies you believe will help, but why would you assume that politicians who support the contrary position do so because they don’t want to help rather than accept they oppose your positions because they sincerely believe they will make things worse? Why do you insist those people are evil rather than simply misguided?

Sometimes being charitable doesnt always mean being “nice”, and I have never seen or heard of Republicans being truly compassionate about the poor. For the last staement you made, I meant what I said, period, the reason I assume the contrary to be “misguided”, simply because it makes sense it makes sense, reducing the taxes for the rich does not help the poor, it allows the rich to be even richer.

If you judge actions by how the media and the Democrats describe them I can understand your belief that Republicans are not compassionate. On the other hand, that approach makes no more sense than believing Muslim descriptions of Christians. The real problem, however, is that there is simply no way to judge the intentions that motivate people.

You are trying to judge compassion but there is no way to do it. Why not judge results instead? By that criterion there is little reason to prefer Democrats.

Whether the rich get richer or not, does not, in and of itself, alter the situation of the poor. What most helps the poor (those not disabled) is employment opportunity. For the disabled poor, governmental aid is necessary (though not necessarily federal).

Neither party does much of anything for the disabled poor. That’s just a fact that has been true for decades. The last thing anyone did for the working poor was the subsidy known as the Earned Income Credit, and that was under Reagan.
