Are there any Catholic teachings regarding a Catholic parish offering a Protestant Bible study to its members? Our parish is starting a Bible study written and presented on DVD by a Baptist woman; the sister in charge of our parish (she’s a pastoral coordinator) claims that there are no Catholic studies available that fit our needs.

At the very least, a Bible study offered in a Catholic parish should have an imprimatur, which is unlikely to be the case for a study offered by a Baptist. And, certainly, to say that “there are no Catholic studies available that fit our [parish’s] needs” is a sweeping generalization that is very unlikely to be accurate. I don’t know why your pastoral coordinator wants to offer a Baptist Bible study to a Catholic parish, but to do so seems imprudent at the least. I recommend taking her catalogues from Ignatius Press, Emmaus Road Publishing, Our Sunday Visitor, and Catholic Answers, all of which offer Catholic Bible studies. If she will not change her mind and cancel the Baptist Bible study in the face of alternative Catholic Bible studies, I recommend writing to your local bishop.
