Can a Catholic sing at a Protestant service?

I find it interesting how some people have zero issues with Masons (Mozart) and Protestants (Bach) and their music being played at Mass, yet others cannot set foot into a Protestant church to sing (or set foot in one period).

Of course some of these are the same people who have no issue with a Protestant playing the organ if it meant really solid Catholics who play the guitar are no where near the building.
 
Is there any rules against going to Mosque. My Muslim friend has agreed to attend Mass with me at Westminster Cathedral. I just wondered if she invites me to Mosque if there is any restriction against it. I truly believe that the fullness of faith is in the Catholic church, but I think it might help if I am charitable towards her place of worship.

see how it all goes, first they ask to be let into protestant “places”, next mosques, . after that they will be dancing around naked in some witches coven, and then finally human sacrifice at a satanic mass.

An innocent person asks an innocent and simple question and gets THIS for an answer. :mad: You need to get your mind out of the gutter.

Am just pointing out the downward spiral of letting Catholics do whatever they like for the sake of being ecumenical. The answer to attending any religious service other than Catholic is a flat NO

So I take it you have never attended a Protestant service?
 
Why would I when the church established by Jesus Christ has been given freely to us? Why settle for third rate when you can have the very best? 😉
 
Two of my best friends are Jewish. I attended their Bat Mitzvah’s at a synagogue. Half of my wife’s family is Lutheran (she is of the Catholic half) so I have attended Lutheran services in the past. I have been to many different services. Nothing has made me want to leave the Catholic Church or make me question my faith. I belong to the True faith, the Church established by Jesus Christ Himself.
However, I see nothing wrong with visiting other churches as I have in the past. I learn by what I see and it better prepares me in theological discussions with other faiths. Granted, there are a few faiths I would probably never visit due to aggressive witnessing, and it’s not like I just wake up and decide to go to a Baptist church, but I see nothing wrong with attending another church on occassion. Just don’t make it a habit and never forget that the Catholic Church is where we belong.

That is not the answer given by the authorities of the Church. Your “answer” is nothing more than personal opinion.

Will you refuse to sing? Go along with it and make a confession later? Not worry about it, because you’re only mouthing the words?

Just now saw this post. We’re not singing anything heretical. There are actually very few Protestant hymns that could be considered heretical (in my experience, anyway), and this is not one of them.

So you wouldn’t even go to a funeral or wedding at a non-Catholic Church?
 
I’m a professional musician and make all of my living working as a musician. I have a steady, Sunday church job as a cantor at a Catholic church, but I also freelance once in a while as a singer for quartets, soloist, section leader, etc. at a few mainstream Protestant churches. (Along with my wedding work and secular classical vocal music work) I know that my faith is strong and that what I do is just a job which usually has gorgeous, sacred music which I can praise God. Most of the time, at the protestant churches where I freelance, they use actual Catholic music, composed by Catholic composers… ie. polyphony, motets, etc… music that is often not heard for an actual Catholic mass anymore except for certain churches, usually in the cities or out in the country. A few of the music directors at these churches are actually Catholic, but because they were mostly either pushed out by Catholic parishes due to only playing organ and using more “traditional” music or because they couldn’t find a paying organist position at a Catholic church, they went to these Protestant churches, many of which use a lot of Catholic repertoire - even before they got there. Used to boggle my mind, but I’m no longer surprised anymore.

These are two sacraments of the Catholic Church so no I would not be attending any where else claiming to be a Church. To be a considered a holy church it must have four marks these are:
  1. One
  2. Holy
  3. Catholic
  4. Apostolic
Protestants, Jews, pagans, and non-denominational worship places do not have all four marks. Only the Catholic church qualifies and its therefore only the Catholic Church will I attend.

I believe that a Catholic should attend Sunday Masses or a Sunset Masses unless there are no catholic churches in the area and the distance is far away…Then we can visit or sing along with other Christians Church or going with friends in the Mosque or other Temples

Well, with your attitude I’m sure they are all glad you aren’t coming:p
And just how do you explain to friends or family that you will not attend their funeral or wedding?..oh wait…you probably don’t have any friends that aren’t Catholic…never mind.

Well, let’s see…weddings, funerals, other family events, family unity, etc. I can think of lots of reasons to, occasionally and under special circumstances, attend a church other than a Catholic church as long as one goes to mass regularly.
