Can a celebration of life be held in a Catholic church?

I recently received an obituary notice that a celebration of life for a deceased person would take place in a Catholic church. Might you please direct me to the canon or liturgical instruction that would prescribe such a celebration in lieu of a proper funeral Mass? Thanks for your kind attention.

My assumption would be that the “celebration of life” was simply someone’s (incorrect) way of saying Funeral Mass. Unfortunately many secular euphemisms have crept into the language of many Catholics and Christians.
