My niece is marrying a protestant later this year. Her fiance wants their infant son to be his Best Man at their Nuptial Mass. I told her I did not believe this was permissable by the church, and that a Best Man acts as a legal witness to the ceremony. Can someone please settle this? She doesn’t see anything wrong with this idea.

Thanks,
Brandi

Dear Brandi,

So you niece wants to advertise the fact that the child was conceived out of wedlock! Good heavens! No Catholic pastor can allow anyone under the age of reason to act as an official witness to anything. An official witness to a marriage must be of legal age in most states. So it’s not going to happen
