I am a Permanent Deacon, ordained 25 years. I have been permitted by two pastors to be the celebrant for the Good Friday Service. I performed all liturgical functions of the Rite. I was told this year I am not permitted to perform this function. I asked the forum this question, but the response had more to do with whether a layperson could give a homily on Good Friday.
If it is not the proper role of a deacon to be the celebrant and it is reserved to the priest, then I will be obedient. If possible I’d like to have this question answered.
In Christ,
Deacon Frank Gallinaro
