Can a deacon give a homily?

Is a deacon supposed to do the homily? … And where can I look this stuff up?
 
Although it is preferred that the priest celebrant give the homily at Mass, a deacon may also occasionally give the homily:
The homily should ordinarily be given by the priest celebrant himself. He may entrust it to a concelebrating priest or occasionally, according to circumstances, to the deacon, but never to a lay person. In particular cases and for a just cause, the homily may even be given by a bishop or a priest who is present at the celebration but cannot concelebrate (GIRM 66).

If you live outside the U.S., you will need to check the web page of the bishops’ conference for your country to see if they have a copy of the GIRM with their own approved adaptations available online.
