Can a Democrat stay married to a Conservative?

I don’t think that the spouses favoring different political parties or candidates by itself should be much of a problem in marriage. But these political differences likely stem from differences in worldview between the spouses, where there is a good chance that they also disagree on things like religion, child-rearing, sexuality within marriage, and so on. Those differences would be much harder to overcome.
We have friends that we go out to dinner with after Mass every Saturday.

She is a diehard Conservative Catholic and he is anything but that. He hates the hell out of Trump. She worships the ground Trump walks on. They are in their mid 60s now.

Marriage is still going strong.

That is so absurd lol. Is your name Utah by any chance?

Utah? No. (Some movie thing maybe???)

I very much doubt the fellow would have gone ahead with it, even though he really was furious. If you kill somebody in a duel, it’s first degree murder. So even if you win, you lose.

But I did like the “cattle whips and longhorns”. No way for anybody to get hurt except maybe from exhaustion. But it sounds deadly to someone who knows nothing about cattle.

It’s a Marty Robbins song about a cow hand who faces off a stampede of cattle to save his friend. Utah Carol. His six gun flashed like lightening and he dropped the leading steer. 🙂

I’ll be. Might look it up on YouTube. Probably will. I have a date with YouTube tonight anyway. Belong to the parish choir and me and a lady in the choir were asked to sing for a wedding together. I have never sung one of those songs before. The lady choir member is operatic quality as a singer, I’m just so-so. Anyway, the title of the song is “The Prayer” sung by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dione. Most of the male part is in Italian, which is kind of neat. But I figure her quality will still cover for my mediocrity, so I agreed to do it.

But there’s not much opportunity to practice, so I have to practice while listening to YouTube. But tonight I’ll look up that song in between my imitations of Andrea Bocelli.

But the truth is, during broad daylight, you wouldn’t have to shoot the leading steer to get them to go around you. It’s actually even difficult to get a herd to run together in an open space. They’ll scatter if there’s only one person driving them. That’s why a rancher will always drive cattle along a fence line.

But I imagine the imagery in the song is neat.

RINO, DINO, CINO… I’ve never cottoned to such terms. But that’s just me. 🤷‍♀️

My wife is a registered Democrat…I’m a registered Republican…we’re both Catholics and both abide by Catholic values and principles…and vote as such…we have friends who are Christians…some are Democrats…some are Republicans…most are Protestants…neither of us allow politics to rule our lives…or who our friends are…although it’s pretty obvious some people do…how sad

Well I don’t know nothin about herding cattle so I don’t know how accurate it is, but it’s a catchy little ballad imo. He has another one dealing with a stampede called “The Master’s Call” about coming to Jesus.

Perhaps there can be a pre-nuptial agreement that makes the marriage null and void if one party ever votes for a democrat.

Ha! Don’t give me any more. I still have to practice, you know. Can’t spend the evening listening to Marty Robbins. 🙂

I have no idea what you are referring to with this. 🙂

Refer to Post 16. It’s a digression, and no two ways about it. Apologies to all.

As a lonely, single conservative, I still wouldn’t want to date a liberal
That’s an interesting point you’ve made there.
I take myself back to my dating days. If I was staunch conservative then, I don’t think I’d care too much what political party an attractive female was from. I would be willing to compromise my position. Which says more about how much I was controlled by um…well, let’s say my libido.

Since you don’t mind digressions, here’s a big one. When I was dating, I didn’t care anything about political affiliation. But I did care about appearance. I was a born Democrat and a true believer. One election night I worked for the Dem party in St. Louis. I knew there was a Dem party and a Repub party, both of major size. I figured the Repub watch party would have better food and more copious liquor; (rich Repubs and all that) And too, in those days, Dem young women were given to stringy hair, army jackets and that kind of thing. Repub young women dressed sharp. So naturally I went to the Repub one.

That’s where I met my wife. Ultimately I converted her to a Dem, or at least she pretended she was. But as I have said before, we both parted with the party when it gave up every cause but abortion.

Nowadays, though, if I was a young man, I wouldn’t date Dem women at all. If they didn’t believe in abortion on demand, they wouldn’t be Dems. Besides, there are hardly any of them in this part of the state anyway.
