How is it wrong for Catholic hierarchy and laity to push the body politic toward more morality? And how is that to be reconciled with being a puppet of Rome? If the Pope is the Vicar (acting “in the person of”)of Christ, and trying to point out the Truth of God’s law, I fail to see this as a problem.I agree. The more Catholic heirarchy and laity berate in public and threaten catholic politicians, the more that the public associates catholic politicians as just being puppets of Rome. And that will be the end of Catholics being able to run at all. I wish some folks could understand the damage they are doing.
The real problem is that Americans (generalizing here) want to do whatever they want to do, not necessarily what is right. And this has been passed down to us from our Forefathers, from the Enlightenment period, a direct descendent of the Protestant Reformation.
