Many of our stories involve people behaving badly. Because people do behave badly in real life, we live in a fallen world and sometimes we make bad choices.
Then we have to live with the consequences of those choices.
Storytelling is one of the ways we process the darker parts of our nature.
True. In a fantasy world I’m creating, one of the societies I’m making makes is twisted beyond repair. But if I ever write a story involving it, I’d definitely make it clear that their society is twisted. Not good.

Some people get off on violent media the same way one gets off on porn. In fact, I’m convinced that for a number of guys, the two are interconnected.
I also know guys who have had fetishes involving G rated family stuff. (not pedophilia) In some cases they were severe enough to require help from a spiritual director.

I don’t believe content that’s not inherently sinful, such as a war game or a fantasy violent shooting game, should be restricted for everyone because a few people have sinful impulses playing it. I feel the same way about art, music and movies. If a person can’t handle it as entertainment and is getting some weird sinful thrill then he needs to stop. Doesn’t mean everybody else needs to be deprived.

Who said anything about “restriction?” I’m not talking censorship here. I think we may be good to practice some voluntary censorship, however, when it comes to practicing our faith.

Exactly, and the whole reason certain forms of entertainment like dark fairy tales, war games, violent video games, splatter-gore horror films, every violent film from Bond to Peck(name removed by moderator)ah to Dirty Harry to Tarantino, and death metal are popular is because they provide safe outlets for people to release anxiety and deal with the dark side of themselves and the world. Assuming someone can enjoy these things without feeling a need to go out and imitate them in real life on humans or even animals, and then walk away and do something else, then no problem.
